Article: COPE to rebrand

The troubled opposition party, Cope would re-brand itself ahead of local government elections, said co-founder Mbhazima Shilowa's spokesman on Saturday.

In an "official statement by the newly election Congress National Committee [CNC] of Cope", spokesman Sipho Ngwema, who is aligned to Shilowa, said the "70-member leadership collective" decided to start focusing on local government elections.

A turd is still a turd... even if you call it a rose

Do yourselves a favour and read the book by Michiel Le Roux: Misadventures of a COPE Volunteer: My Crash Course in Politics.

It is a humorous recounting of his foray into politics. If you read how chaotic and disorganised COPE is, you'd be surprised that they managed to get one single vote.

It's really sad, they had all the opportunity in the world but they're just a break away faction of the ANC really.

We need a serious new political party very badly.

Yes, it does seem they only broke away for revenge and power and could not get that.

I read in Friday 's Mail & Guardian that there are 4 prominent COPE members who are in talks with the ANC about re-joining their ranks. The article says that the 4 would like to re-join the ANC to in order to see "what role they can play in society" ... and it then goes on to say these 4 guys are really talking to the ANC because they are looking for goverment contracts to benefit their companies !!!!!

What does that tell you? They joined COPE in the hope that the party would have some political clout/power, which would secure them tenders, etc and now that that is not happening, they are crawling back to the ANC, because they need the income.

Pathetic.

Doesnt it just remind you of Neotel, all the opportunity in the world, and they farked it up

Cope has already destroyed themselves - their best bet now is to join the DA and use that 7% vote they got during the last election, cause come the next election they will get <1% of the vote. The only meaningful opposition I see is a merger between the DA/Cope/ID/etc - unless the labour movements decide to form a political party, but that might be worse :o

The only reason they're popping up now is 'cos of the campaign money for the upcoming elections. Its about the money not what's good for the people.

And they won't ever join the DA 'cos the DA don't organize tenders for their members.
