Article: Demand for Krugerrands soars

Before people think that Gold is an investment, read the following recent article: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6932NR20101004

"Billionaire financier George Soros, echoing comments from investment guru Warren Buffett, last month described gold as the "ultimate bubble" because it is costly to dig up and has no real value except its market price."

Not saying you should not buy gold, but the article will give many a better understanding of how to approach it and the real value of doing so.

Many people are afraid of Hyper-inflation, with governments printing money like there is no tomorrow. That is the reason for the scrambling to safety.

Read the following two articles:
The Dirty Dollar
Living on Borrowed Time

Many people will be paralyzed by fear during the coming years. But for the financially intelligent, this will be the opportunity of a lifetime. For those who aren’t financially intelligent, I’d suggest at the very least purchasing some gold or silver—as much as you can afford—to protect yourself from inflation. If you have a high financial intelligence, be on the look out for deals. As asset prices crash, be ready to swoop in and buy them up.

The important thing to remember about depressions is that wealth doesn’t disappear—it’s simply transferred.

This is the biggest transfer of wealth in modern history. You have the choice to be on the receiving end—or to lose it all. The dividing line will be those who are financially intelligent and those who aren’t.

Nevermind gold.. when the end comes and we're all starring in Mad Max, gold will be worth its weight in emu poo... guns, water, cans of beans, petrol and bullets is what I am buying and stocking up on.

I also think in modern times gold is completely useless. Spend millions to dig the stuff up deep underground melt it into bricks and then store in underground in bank safes.

I really disagree, simply because our whole economy runs off that useless stuff.
Gold is only a good liquid asset, that's all it's good for. It's a shyte thing to invest in and made a nice lump sum of money off it... unless of course you buy and sell it at the right time, but in anycase, it's an epic gamble.

Basically, the only reason why you would want gold is to in case the rands value collapses, you can still be with something of value. It's easy to trade with everywhere, I say this because you can walk into just about any bank and trade it for money. It's also nice to have Krugerrand's as 'money under the bed', which will have it's value vary, but will generally carry a reliable value.

I sure hope Dinky-Di comes in beef flavor! :D

My intention is buy about R10K worth of Kruger Rands by the end of next year as I want a safe haven. I might not be a lot of money, but life is too unpredictable no matter where in the world you are.

At least one thing with gold, you might not make anything on it but your also not going to loose it all unlike my wifes venture capital investment that peaked at R100K and is now worth less than R30K

I just bought a few today.. i'm a gold bug, i don't think it's a bubble, the bull run is just starting :-)

you'll be lucky if you can get a krugerrand for 10k by the end of next year, they're almost 10k now, and some dealers are selling them for up to 10.3 already.
