A man selling fake DVDs was arrested near the metro police's headquarters in Martindale, Johannesburg on Thursday and then led officers to a bootleg production facility.

Said spokeswoman Edna Molewa: "About three hours ago Joburg metro arrested a guy selling fake dvds in the Martindale area where our headquarters are."

This is what I was wondering, the movie on the DVD/whatever maybe a pirate copy, but surely the disc holding it is the real thing?. Then again, maybe Verbatim was spelt with two t's or something?.

Police made him point out where he obtained the DVDs. He led them to Noord Street in central Johannesburg where they apprehended three more people.

The suspects then took the officers to a house in Bertrams where DVD production equipment was found.

The Congolese nationals and one Zimbabwean are expected to appear in court soon.

I agree.

Currently there has not been a conviction against any of the sellers yet. Their cases are being withdrawn in court, mainly due to the fact that these guys claim they were under the impression they are selling real movies, and that they get it from third parties.

It's one thing to sell pirated dvd's, but fake? Isn't the idea to have repeat customers? This town needs a better class of criminal, this is just LOL!
