Article: Five cent coin discontinued

Old ladies everywhere to take up more time at check-out till-points

lol... those ten cent pieces are really small.
But yeah, probably a good thing.

doesn't that mean that prices will also no longer be Rxx-95? ... otherwise you will always give out 2 2c and a 1c :D

Why people still have cents on them I dont know. We live in the age of the debit cards people!!!!!! :-)

Yea it costs me 4-10 rand every time i use it though. So let's say i make 50 purchases a month that is roughly 5k a year, could be more depending what speed point is used. Although some banks don't charge for it standard banks does :(.

Great news, so tired of my wallet bursting with the damn things. They were way too big for such a small value.

WHAT????????? Change banks!!! Good grief! Capitec charges me R4.00 a month and all card swipes are free!

This is good news. The 5c coins are WAY too big anyway. Wallet-bursting little bastard nuggets. Good riddance!

So everything gets 5 cents more expensive?

When last have you seen 1 and 2c coins in circulation? They were discontinued some time ago.

Hopefully now we'll have prices rounded to the nearest rand.

That's what I also thought!!!

I don't have any cash with me and only carry my cards with me. I just went to put in R300 of petrol in my car and when I wanted to pay with my garage card I was told the machine is offline. Then I went inside to use the ATM and also offline!!

I had to phone somebody to bring me the cash because I had no cash on me.
