That's the excuse you should use if you marry an Afrikaans person, "they didn't always talk like this, the coma caused it."
I mean who the hell would marry an Afrikaans person, you twisted pervert...![]()
My wife is Afrikaans and has a very distinct accent after over a decade in Scotland. It's nowhere near the Charlize league of total transformation, but people she doesn't know are very surprised when she starts speaking Afrikaans![]()
Charlize strikes me as being ashamed of her roots.
I dunno, but there has to be some agenda or other to completely change your accent unless you're a young child moving country. Even though my kids came to SA when they were 8 and 10, they still have a Scottish accent at 18 and 16 (albeit not as harsh as mine but it's there nonetheless). So it has to be a choice and for that you would have to ask why, especially now that she's 'made it' and has no need to pretend or act anymore.
Otherwise she'd have the KP brand of trying too hard to fit in but not quite succeeding![]()
I am sure Theron learnt and uses the American accent because she wanted to fit in and she wanted the good movie roles. If she had a South African accent, she would always be typecase in the kinds of roles she is given.
Nevertheless, she strikes me as someone who denies her roots to a certain extent.
OI! This thread is about Queen George, not Ravenna.
Charlize strikes me as being ashamed of her roots.
If you've ever heard her talk about the, she comes across as sincerely proud, but realised early on that the South African accent was hardly endearing in the acting profession...
Well it worked for Matt Damon and.....Well it worked for Matt Damon.
