Article: Gov mum on White Widow

Government officials declined to comment on Wednesday about reports that a woman linked to the Nairobi mall attacks rented property in Johannesburg and had a fake South African passport.

"I am not commenting on the matter," said Home Affairs spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa, to whom international department spokesman Clayson Monyela was referring all media inquiries.

Of course the South African government will be mum about the issue. They issued the passport, as well as identity document. I highly doubt that this is either a fraudulent passport or fake identity. SA has been known for sometime now either harboring terrorists and criminals or allowing them the use of our facilities.

What I know this far, is the fact that this woman was issued a valid SA Identity Document according to the population register some years ago. I also know that she applied for a valid passport that was issued by HA. So, both the ID and passport is valid, so I do not know where the claims of a forged passport comes in.

If Government had nothing to hide and was not involved in this, we would have read more about this in the media.

Pandor: White widow passport fraudulent

http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Pandor-White-widow-passport-fraudulent-20130926

Pretoria - A South African passport belonging to woman allegedly involved in the attack at a mall in Nairobi, Kenya was fraudulently acquired, Home Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor said on Thursday.

"It [the passport] was investigated and reported on in 2011. It was cancelled at the time as it was found to be acquired fraudulently," she told reporters in Pretoria.

"What we need to do is look at the applications office and check who processed it and how that person met the requirements to be granted a passport."

Oh I love these geniuses!

This passport was found to be fraudulent during 2011.

Now during 2013, two years later, our esteemed deployed cadre says: "What we need to do is...."

Help me if I am wrong.
Nothing has been done yet.
Where are the culprits?
Two years later?

Now that the horse bolted we will start to close the stable.
Please don't fear. The credibility of our SA passports is not compromised according to our honorable minister Pandor.

Yeah.

Viva!

Fraudulent, not forged.

It is a major embarrassment for SA. Used to be our passport was useless because of sanctions now, it's becoming useless because of a thoroughly corrupt and inept government and civil service.

And the timing is horrendous, just when the DHA wanted to formally request UK to drop the SA VISA requirements.

We could travel with our old passports though. Just SAL/SAA was barred from putting wheels to tarmac in many countries I think, specially in Africa ... but our Passport was accepted by all countries were it not?

+1. There was 120 000 duplicate ID and passport documents printed a couple of years ago and these people know it. They just call their contact and "place and order" for new documents. The contact replaces the photo and off they go.

I chatted to a friend about this last night. He works for the company that developed the technology used in our passports to make them impossible to forge. the technology is state of the art.
But what is the use of all that tech if the damn process has been corrupted.
To say he was spitting mad was a understatement.

Using a forged passport is totally different to using a legit passport.

Applying for a passport with fraudulent information and being issued a real valid passport from Home Affairs is also two different things.

It does not make the passport fraudulent as the person is travelling with a legitimate passport, which also shows valid on their system. Only the actions in applying is fraudulent (be it the actions of the applicant, as well as those of the HA official who approved it)

Getting the passport is not easy. There is a process in getting the ID Document first and then later the passport.

Also, the passport was not cancelled, in fact it still showed valid a couple of days ago.

A passport with your pic and someone else's details is fraudulent. It's pretty much the definition of fraudulent.

True. What is the point if the people issuing them are corrupt.
