Article: Kruger bans liquor from public areas

The Kruger National Park will ban visitors from using any alcohol in public areas as of next week.

Park spokesperson William Mabasa said day visitors especially would no longer be allowed to bring or consume alcohol in parking lots, at picnic sites, wildlife viewing areas or on roads and at entrance gates.

The KNP just became a much more boring place, no?

Nope, a better place. It for viewing the animals and being in the bush, is you want to go someplace to get skunk drunk in the open air try the local park.

And the overnight visitors can enjoy thier drink in a more civilized manner.

Good stuff!
Get rid of the idiots that go there to get stupid.

What they don't mention in the article is that apparently this policy only extends to day visitors and worse only extends to private day visitors. Commercial operators carrying international tourists on safaris are still permitted to bring alcohol into the park. Also of course anyone that isn't a day visitor.

So locals coming in in their own cars for the day: HAHA NO BOOZE FOR YOU! but hey foreigners and people actually staying in the park the rules are different for you guys! Drink away man. Get absolutely hammered we don't mind!

Problem solved :D

The rules don't make much sense when you look at them that way.

Let it be known though that I support the idea of banning booze in the park. People shouldn't be driving around a game reserve hammered. However if you're going to ban alcohol ban it consistently.

Obviously you are not aware of the 'Kruger' issue. Oversee tourists are not problematic at all when it comes to alcohol consumption in the park. They have never been. People who can afford to sleep over a few nights, are pretty well behaved too. That leaves the 'poor' day visitors who just want to have fun for a few hours. There is no tour guide to check on them. Their particulars are not known. After they pay a fairly discounted entry fee, they think they own the place. I am all in support of this measure.

They won't have time to enforce this selective law,too many rhinos are being killed...they have to search for poachers not bottles
