Article: Man held for ecstasy tablets valued at R85 million

Two men have been arrested at the Middelburg Toll Plaza in Mpumalanga for possession of ecstasy tablets police valued at around R85 million.

The drugs were found on Tuesday night in a vehicle that a Bulgarian national and a Durban club owner were travelling in, said Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale on Wednesday.
 
Based off a very quick search..

Ecstasy seems to be selling for about R60 per gram....
At the R85m valuation, that puts the haul at around 1.3tons (if my maths is vaguely on the money)

Our cops have a pisspoor track record lately of accurately guestimating what drugs are actually worth, so I'm waiting for that R85m number to be reduced significantly.

Source? That's kinda cheap. Like moerse cheap. A pill is normally about an eighth of a gram at about R 150.
 
Street value for a gram of MDMA is R800

MDMA capsules is about R120

Pills can be anything from R80 to R120 a pill

EDIT: Pills and caps contain between 70mg and 150mg MDMA.

Searching the net.. a few places were mentioning figures of around R60 a gram.

I have no idea what a pill consists of, so am flying a bit blind there, Must say the last time I heard a price for a pill it was around R80....

But if its R800 per gram for MDMA, then its 106 kgs of Ecstasy.. thats still quite a haul, but much more believable, though if a pill is 1/8 of a gram, its 850000 pills (give or take),which could be quite difficult to conceal.

Look, I'm all pro drugs but this is not true.
E in moderation is fine, it can even be used to treat clinical depression.
If you however use it like a std mandy pandy then don't expect it to be harmless.

I was more confused by the way MyBB cut off the heading as I read it as;

It is actually quite dependent on the quality and often the cut of the crystal.
Anywhere from R150 to about R300.

Also take note that esctasy is not pure MDMA o you can't really look at it this way.
E is filled with caffeine, and other additives to bulk it up and make more profit.
I'm not sure if it's still done but they even used to put Mandrax aka Methaqualone aka the drug they loved so much in The Wolf of Wall Street.
 
last time I checked was in around 2002, then it was about R60 to R80 a pill
 
I think you'll find heatstroke is actually the most common cause of death in Ecstasy related incidents. Rather the lack of water than too much of it.
