Article: Mandela not in a vegetative state

Doctors treating former president Nelson Mandela have denied that he is in a vegetative state, the presidency said on Thursday.

"We confirm our earlier statement released this afternoon after President Jacob Zuma visited Madiba in hospital that Madiba remains in a critical, but stable condition," spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

Family advised to turn off Mandela's life support;)

"He is in a permanent vegetative state and is assisted in breathing by a life support machine," said a legal filing related to a family dispute over reburying the remains of three of Mandela's children.

"The Mandela family have been advised by the medical practitioners that his life support machine should be switched off.

The "Certificate of Urgency" document was obtained from a lawyer representing Mandela family members, who had successfully sought a court order to return the disputed children's remains to the Madiba's childhood home, after a grandson had them moved to his own village.

The document was presented to the Eastern Cape High Court as President Jacob Zuma reported that Mandela's health had faltered and cancelled a trip to Mozambique.

While this may be true, the statement is not that of the doctors, but of Mac (would I lie to you) Maharaj - credibility is somewhat lacking in that neck of the woods !

So how should we take "filings" made by the presidency and an blatant lier like Zuma then?

Madiba is already dead, gone, live with it!
 
The only person whose "testimony" on the matter really should carry any weight is his wife. If the doctors believed him to be in a permanent vegetative state and suffering it is probable that she would have given the authority to switch off the machines.

How does one, at 94 years old, remain in critical condition for a month? Something doesn't feel right about all this.

We've seen the decline, which is a natural process. Lights might be on but the hamster is not the smartest cookie in the toolshed.

Sometimes I feel like giving him a slap. He lies on a wide range of issues and then he pulls this arrogant attitude of "how dare you question me". He also has a nasty way of talking down to the press.
 
IF the presidency is not lying then the affidavits must be lying - so what is the point of an affidavit then? I think the presidency is making their name gat once again.
