The ANC noted "with concern" the news that former president Nelson Mandela's condition had changed to critical on Sunday.

"The African National Congress joins the presidency in calling upon all of us to keep President Mandela, his family and his medical team in our thoughts and prayers during this trying time."

Mandela was admitted to hospital in Pretoria on June 8 with a recurring lung infection, where he has been in a serious condition.

Earlier on Sunday evening, the presidency said: "The condition of former President Nelson Mandela, who is still in hospital in Pretoria, has become critical."

This followed a visit by President Jacob Zuma and deputy president of the ANC Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday.

The ANC said it welcomed the work done by the presidency in keeping the nation informed about Mandela's health.
 
Did Mandela or his family [highlight]ever (going back to his early health scares)[/highlight] officially give king Zumatello's presidency the right to comment on Mandela's health? Someone close to the family should have been giving updates on his condition to the media, instead of the liar snake from the presidency.

How about a competition to guess the nearest approximate point in time when stinky fish will be outlawed.

Really really sad. What irritates me though is that we had to first hear this from an international news broadcaster and not from our own news / presidency office. Why all the secrecy, Mandela is someone we all care about.

Who do you think the international news broadcasters get their information from? They cannot really compete with the international guys in terms of news delivery.

Of course he was lying as always. A few weeks ago they made the statement that Madiba is an old man with health issues and that South Africans should not try to hold on to him. They knew it would not be going so well as they tell the public.
 
The ANC are going to spin this to their advantage for next years elections. Like saying voting ANC that's what Madiba would have wanted or something.

ALSO being from PE, we have a lot of old school conservative Afrikaners here who are afraid of this very event, would be very interesting to see what they have to say/do.

He may be a great man but he is only mortal, as much as it's a nice idea, we all have to go sometime. May it be peaceful.
 
What right does Zuma's office have in commenting on this, as opposed to his family? It's disgusting that they're politicising this whole thing.
 
Journalist have a fear of missing out, why else would they camp out in this cold weather?
