Article: Massive crocodile shot

A 4.5-metre crocodile shot after menacing children was so heavy a digger was needed to load it onto a pick-up truck, news reports from Australia's far-north city of Darwin said Tuesday.

Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife ranger Tommy Nichols supervised the trapping, shooting and loading at Palumpa, 240 kilometres south-west of Darwin.

And they had to shoot it because ?

Pity, the thing was probably ancient.

They should of just relocated the thing.

Thanks God for the photo, I thought the "menacing children" were the ones too heavy and had to be lifted out

And they had to shoot it because ?

...it is not a squirrel?

Reminds me of the migrating hippos that we kill - that really pisses me off. It is a wonder of nature when these beasts roam great distances and the best we can do for them is to kill 'em...

Well done humans! I am sure planet earth is now better off...

We are

Locals say the crocodile is the one that had been a problem for about two years in the area.

They say the big saltie sometimes stopped children from crossing the causeway at the community to attend school.

But Salties are a protected species in Oz and other places eg Port Blair but their numbers (and range) are spinning out of control worldwide. This one was found 240km South Of Darwin in a Billabong which is a long way from the sea but in 2010 a saltie took an American female snorkeller in the open seas off Havelock Island in the Andamans, Her boyfriend managed to video the attack and the camera was later retrieved as proof. The location was over 140km from the nearest known croc reserve.
At this rate they can forget shark nets in the Pacific and Asia and put up croc gates.

Okay this is bothering me too much, so here's a rewrite:

That sort of makes sense now. Now doesn't it?

Along with the missing black mamba, the crock should have been relocated to a petting zoo in the parliamentary village.

No, your last sentence is still terrible.

The immense weight of the reptile necessitated the use of a digger to load it onto a pick-up truck for removal.

...would be better.
