Article: New 5FM line-up

Yeah, also ditched 5FM for KFM (although I don't find them awesome; just a better alternative to 5FM). I just can't stand the music that is being dished out on ANY radio station these days. Maybe I'm just a musical dinosaur, but the stations these days don't cater to all tastes and that is hugely disappointing.

How hard would it be to start a radio station that caters to people like me (old school rock and roll, alternative and some metal). Can't recall the last time I heard a Metallica, AC/DC, Korn or Linkin Park song on the radio...

Gilman, Martinengo, Cliff - I enjoyed those guys. Goode is best tolerated after a few drinks.

DJ Fresh is fantastic... but I think he was better in the afternoon.

Also, the music used to be better. It feels like the DJs have no control over what's played anymore.

I miss Fresh because I only get in my car at 8, really sucks

I think the station has taken a major dive since Cliff left. Although the changes they have made now are an improvement.

I started when he left :p Different stroked for different folks.

5FM is my favourite radio station. If something plays that I really don't like, I switch to TuksFM, or just lower the volume.

Still better than Jacaranda ;)

Stopped back in 2004, when barney left, rather got the boot. However things went south before that, couldn't listen to it since early 2000's, 5fm's best years were 1995 -2000.

Prefer east coast and OFM.

You have to feel sorry for how hard the SABC is trying to keep things up beat with that article. If one more influential player makes a move like Cliff has done, it will kickoff the inevitable downward spiral for "funky" terrestrial radio. NASPERS needs to pump more money into streaming radio or get DAB off the ground in this country.

I still enjoy 5fm, guess it is different strokes and all that jazz.
It keeps things intereting. Better than "The kids quiz" on Jacaranda :p

Been listening to Barney this morning and at least once a week for past 4-6 months...his 2004/2005 shows that I ripped using my tv/ radio card. Brilliant!

Yeah, growing listeners from 1.3m to about 2m, that is really going south...

Tell me, how do you accurately calculate listernership via one-way broadcast without something like a subscription or similar, let alone growth?
