Article: Pallo Jordan resigns

Pallo Jordan has resigned from Parliament and apologised to the ruling party after reports that his qualifications are false, secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Monday.

Jordan had also offered to resign from the national executive committee (NEC) of the ANC and from the ANC.

Earlier, the party's Chief Whip in Parliament Stone Sizani said that with or without academic qualifications Jordan remains a source of pride for the party.

He said reports that Jordan, an African National Congress MP and stalwart, did not have the academic qualifications he has long been associated with was a "publicity gimmick".

What do you say now Sizani ?

Mr Mantashe said the ANC had received a "detailed explanation" from Mr Jordan on the claims regarding his qualifications.

This would have to be the spin of the century !

Bet you he got a better Woodwork Grade Than Motor Mouth
Or higher schooling Grade than Zuma-Twat

Give him credit. He does the honorable thing. Not like certain other persons currently in the news for misrepresenting their qualifications.

No fan of the ANC, the majority are crooked scoundrels, but this chap was actually one guy that came with some intellectual pedigree, all be it not an official academic one.

If you had to line up all their MP's and pick a list of who to fire first, he would not be nearly near the top for me.

You don't need a degree to be wise.
Clearly you need some woodwork though ;)

He falls on his sword, at least honor is not dead.
Better than some of his comrades, past present and future.

Quite sad and pitiful that a man of his character should come to this sort of political demise.

JORDAN SHOWS HUMILITY: ANCYL

Pallo Jordan resigning from Parliament after reports that his qualifications are false was a show of humility, the ANC Youth League said on Monday.

"He remains our comrade. Our teacher and our mentor, regardless of his human defects," the ANCYL said in a statement.

"As the ANC Youth League, we have always took his contribution to any and all discussions seriously and we shall continue to do so. For when we engage as comrades we do not engage with the qualifications of the speaker or presenter but with the content presented or advanced."

The ANCYL said it would engage its structures in tertiary institutions to start a process of ensuring that South African universities conferred honorary doctorates on Jordan for his "immense contribution" in the promotion of literary work and the development of democracy.

African National Congress secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Monday that Jordan had resigned from Parliament and apologised to the ruling party.

Jordan had also offered to resign from the national executive committee (NEC) of the ANC and from the ANC.

"True to his character, he has apologised to the ANC, its membership and South Africa as a whole," Mantashe said in a statement.

"A man of comrade Pallo Jordan's intellect does not need to perpetuate deceit; he must be given time to deal with his guilt. As the ANC, we have accepted his public apology; to apologise was not an action of the faint-hearted."

Mantashe said the African National Congress received a detailed explanation from Jordan on Monday on claims that his qualifications were false.

The ANC national officials had accepted his resignation from Parliament, but his resignation from membership of the NEC and the ANC have been referred to the structures of the organisation, he said.

The Sunday Times reported last week that no evidence could be found that Jordan, who goes by the title "Dr" has ever had an honorary doctorate bestowed on him.

Jordan has no degrees or diplomas from the University of Wisconsin-Madison or the London School of Economics (LSE), the two institutions cited on his CV.

He has no formal tertiary academic qualifications whatsoever, the publication reported.

The ANCYL said it appreciated that Jordan explained himself to the ANC leadership and welcomed his resignation from Parliament.

Jordan should however remain a member of the ruling party and serve in the ANC NEC, it said.

"We are of the firm view that he is an integral part of the ANC and he should not be permitted to age outside of what he has been all his life," it said.

May the Lord preserve us from "immense contributions". Pal O'Jordan could always get a quick Ph.D. from that bible institute owned by a former KZN municipal manager who gave herself a one-day MBA.

I'd love to see how his fraud was "explained".

And what about his pension and all other benefits that ex-Ministers get????

IMO

people dishonourably discharged from being MPs should forfeit on any and all benefits befitting MPs. Maybe with the exception - if they can prove in a court of law that they were coersed into involuntarily doing whatever bad act.

But in this instance not even such a clause could save this monkey.....

I am trying very hard to give him credit - There is not many high ranking ANC members I have rerspect for - he is still one of those I thought was one of the good guys, all I can say is damn you ANC. The rotten amongst you are outranking the ones I thought were, "the few good men".
