Shouldn't they've thought of this before they went on strike...? I hate unions (all of them) they are useless and waste our time.
We were writing exams in non mother tongue even during apartheid because we were taught in non mother tongue. What's changed now that today's children must receive preferential treatment?

How is it going to help them to pass when they should fail and repeat. Rather fail matric than university. University is much more expensive and you get excluded after a while. That is more devastating than having to repeat matric.
 
I'm white, I'm not South African, English is not my mother tongue. Would they have marked me preferentially? The idiot generation is here.

We all know they do not go to to learn at University, the only Trades they learn are Striking & Woodwork.

True, a large number go there, fail and join the ANCYL. Umlungu holding you back? AMANDLA! etc. Always easier to blame someone else for your fudge-up than yourself. Would be awesome if universities required a yearly average of 70% + to allow students to join political societies/clubs.
 
The lack of intent for bettering our students astounds me. How are these students going to fair at University?! The strike is going to have far worse repercussions than the gov think.

Not to point out to these idiots that the matric exam has become a joke. It's rationalised to the point where you have to work for your fail - I see people who can't study for a learner's exam pass matric but can't pass the learner's on their own.

Next they'll ask universities to pass them all. The comrade Blade has already hinted varsities ought to do more to support these failing first years.

When I was at varsity we had people with 5+ As fail engineering first year so bad they had to be excluded. Something like fail 5 of 6.

I only wrote 2 of my 6 subjects in my mother tongue. I wonder if I can ask them to backdate my marks by a decade and go easier on me too. *g*

Also, what does "go easy on them" defined as? I thought marks were awarded for answers & formulae that were correct.

Interestingly enough, my mom informed me that they are no longer permitted to fail any pupil before grade 10 as there is no stipulated minimum pass rate from the DoE. Ergo, no grounds to fail them.
 
some how i doubt that even with biased marking most students would be able to pass. they are better off ejecting them from school with fake certifications completely :D

education is something you work hard at, not something you earn for your race.
 
So it's the colour of ones skin that gets one a matric certificate and not hard work, wonderfull democracy at work here...

I am curious, did most of the so called "black diamonds" get their education during the 90's ?

If the old education model worked why did they have to change it ?

No! How do they compete if they've all had two months of learning the entire year? And I use the term education loosely here... can't call SADTU members teachers.
