Emotions ran high over the weekend when scores of people attended public meetings about Pretoria's proposed name change, Beeld reported.
In the Pretoria city hall, groups of people gathered in separate race groups, and shortly before the meeting started, men dressed in khaki sang Die Stem, the apartheid-era anthem, the sound of which was drowned out by singing, dancing ANC supporters.

Oh that looks like a fair representation of Pretoria. I'm sure a lot of white people would love to pitch up at Themba Stadium/KT Motubatse Community Hall/Refilwe Community Hall/Rethabile Community Hall/Bronkhorstspruit Sports Centre and feel very safe in those areas to oppose the pointless name change.

My thoughts exactly.
Die land brand and Zuma is opening religious centres and people are arguing about names.
From what I heard, some of the meetings weren't even held in Pretoria, FFS. I know there was one in Centurion for example. Why not ask people in Cape Town, Durban and Mogadishu as well?
Diversion tactics. By creating other issues, the ANC is pretending to be glorious struggle/revolution/whatever heroes and hoping their voters will forget their massive failures and looting, like how Zoomer is speding millions that could have built many houses, on upgrading his personal palace.

No. It's part of the Tshwane metro but it's always been a separate town.

There were suggestions on Cape Talk/702 this morning to rename it Mandela.

Fsck that too. Why change it at all? It's just going to piss someone off. This issue should've NEVER even started in the first place back in 2001.
There's already a City of Tshwane, so what's the point of having a place called Tshwane in there too? How about we just call it "Capital city" -- that's about as neutral as you get.

Because the chances of keeping an Afrikaner name as capital of SA are zero.
Why not just call it Floopidyflooville then?
The point is there's no reason to change the names of ANY town, city or street in SA anymore. It's something that needs massive effort and money to do and the default state is to keep things as they are, unless there's a reason to change it. There were some offensive ones but they have been changed ages ago. The only reason it's done now is for political pandering to distract from real problems.
BTW there's also a City of Johannesburg metro and an actual city called Johannesburg, that doesn't stop them.
