No, that's your spin on it, making it seem as if he says if you don't agree with whatever he says then you are wrong, rather than a specific subject, in this case censorship.

Actually he has a point here. Either you want opinions you don't like censored (not a free society - in many respects a theocracy) or you don't (a free society).

The former means you don't recognise the right to free speech the latter does. I find anyone that holds the former to be a threat to the freedom of our country. Don't attempt to impose your beliefs and morality on me. Anyone who wants to can go fsck himself/herself.

Learn to tolerate other points of view even if you don't like them or move to Iran.

Why cant there be middle ground ? Why does it have to be black and white ? Like hate groups or racist's groups. Should they be allowed to say discriminating things ? So sure we allow freedom of speech and I fully agree and support it but is it really okay for the AWB to call non whites ******irs ? Or the KKK calling "blacks" **groes ?

In this particular case, is what I said. There is indeed room for a great deal of nuance when it come to these issues in general, which is why open conversation is important, but in this instance, either you support this censorship, or you do not.

Because there isn't a middle ground on this issue.

And your examples are Hate Speech, which is covered in the constitution.

Why should people in a free society stand by and let that freedom be undermined by idiots that want to stifle all stances they don't agree with?

Of course we are tolerating them. No one is forcing him to keep quiet and not air his views in complete freedom. Again, it's a very peculiar expectation of special treatment of some sort. :confused:

Fair point actually. Nobody is calling for censorship on our 'anti-censorship side' (for lack of a better term).

You can state your opinion but you can't insist that someone else's opinion not be allowed to be heard in the public arena. No you don't have that right at all.

If you think you do please point it out in the Constitution... I'm guesing it would be something along the lines of "the right to restrict the free speech of others". Having read the Bill of Rights multiple times I don't believe I ever noticed that section.

When porn is broadcast on public access television it is done so in the early hours of the morning. Unless you are a family of bats you don't need to worry about your kids seeing it. If your kids are seeing it then frankly porn on TV is the least of your parenting worries.

If porn were being shown in the middle of the day then you would have a point. Luckily it isn't because we have regulatory bodies preventing that. Yay for rational approaches to things that don't infringe on people's liberties!!... as opposed to Iran!

It was a what if situation and the likely of it happening has no relevance , I was pointing out in the event that porn would be shown on public TV I would oppose it and call for censorship. Let me rather say then , in the event that hardcore porn will be shown in the day between 08H00 and 20H00 I would oppose it and call for censorship.



Then move to Iran. Otherwise if you want to live in a free society then join the rest of us in tolerance realising that you cannot dictate your morality to the rest of us.

Moving something to another timeslot isn't really censorship. Censorship suppresses information. It doens't just invovle shifting it around a little.

Of course you can state that you disagree. Once again though that isn't what you said. You said you wanted your kid to grow up in an environment with your sense of morality.

If what you want is to have your kid grow up in an environment with nothing but your sense of morality around then know that in a free society that is basically impossible. You must tolerate the views of others. If you want to have your kid grow up in an environment consisting of nothing but your morality then move to Iran.

The reason I have such an obsession with Iran is because it is one place that enforces by law one strict sense of morality. One view. It then brutally oppresses and crushes all other opinions and views. It is the opposite of a free society. It is where people that want censorship of things they disagree with should go. It doesn't have to be Iran specifically, you can pick any other brutal theocracy you would like.

Just heard on Eyewitness News (Highveld) that the ad's been pulled... whilst sipping a Red Bull. Guess their stunt worked; I haven't had one in years. :whistle:

Another win for Team Middle Ages!
