49.99 million official

+- 65 million with all illegals in our country...

And now that we have all our xenophobic attacks flaring up again, that number will temporarily decrease once again.

While these provinces are estimated to lose people Gauteng and the Western Cape are expected an inflow of migrants of about 364 400 and 94 600 respectively. - BuaNews

Urbanization is going to strain the Gauteng and the Western Cape, service delivery to these areas are going to remain a problem if this is an indication of the approximite annual rate of influx.

Poor Gauteng is taking the main brunt of the urbanization at 364 400.

I thought the ANC was bussing them into the WC in time for next year's election? You think maybe the bus drivers got the directions a bit wrong?

Guys, honestly, it was 49.3 last year... Our growth is actually slowed as well. I wouldn't be surprised if our population decreased. And yes, its because of HIV

50 million.... No wonder there is so much poverty. Can't all the poor people just stop screwing or they should make it illegal to have babies if you don't have enough money.

And the real problem is obviously job creation and employment. I don't know the exact figure from 2000 but within the decade its gone from 48 to 50 so the real question is how many of the additional 2 million people are actually working ??

Employment is not always permanent nor sustainable and imo we haven't built an industry that supports an additional 2 million people. Not everyone works in construction and the types of jobs are limited. Add in the people flocking over the border never to leave and it doesn't paint a pretty picture wrt employment. Nevertheless its a rough guess, the numbers probably far higher

2 million people aren't born and automatically able to work :p

yip, China has had a constant 10% or more real per capita GDP growth rate for decades now, we are stuck at 1%(negative when counting the immigrants), all while dept is increasing. Exact same strong pattern in Singapore and other nations who have population control policies.

China will be richer than us per capita of earnings, within a mere 5 years alone.

Why is this so when we have ample resources and sunlight?
