ANC heavyweight Malusi Gigaba on Friday accused the EFF of being "sour losers".

"They need to stop being sour losers and accept they only have one million voters and they have lost," he told reporters at the IEC national results operations centre in Pretoria.

ANC has been around 100-odd years - none more odd than of late. They didn't get a single vote for most of their existence. EFF has been around for a few hours and it already has a million.

EFF has more, ANC has less. This logic probably explains why the lights struggle to stay on.
 
Parliment should be fun between the ANC and EFF! Can any of this bunch be entrusted to lead us forward without our legislative becoming a circus and mayhem?

I think we worse off sadly as debate wont happen - just anarchy!
 
Do you guys really believe we would still be seeing free and fair elections if the EFF comes to power?
 
EFF and ANC might fight constantly and be at each other's throats, giving a chance for the DA to sneak in and walk away with a bone.

This assumes a certain intelligence in the majority of the electorate. The present results show that the majority really are still not aware of the power of their ballots. They seem to consider themselves married to the ANC. They rather endure an abusive relationship with a stealing, lying, alcoholic partner, who always promises to better his life, instead of choosing a new path.

And when they finally change vote, they change for the asinine, vacuous populist rhetorics of the EFF. A party with the least understanding of real economics.

The only loser I see in this election is the ANC (and a few smaller irrelevant parties).

But for the ANC to lose 3 percentage points is huge.

Especially more so when they have been losing a bit more in every election.

At least the buggers won't be falling asleep with all the shouting going on.

Our parly will be just like the UK one with people shouting and screaming at each other.

What does this mean to the man on the street ?
 
Want to see the ACTUAL votes after the counting. As the voter base has grown (and not by too many whites I think), be interesting to see how many newbies voted for ANC.

Be interesting to compare 2009 and 2014 actual votes. I think there is a switchoff to Zuma and his merry men and possibly not the ANC in general???

it means that the ANC is moving away from indomitable

about 10% of an electorate vote for the "government" in a general election - this is why even if the popularity polls suggest that the ruling party in a 2 party system is less than 50% (but above 40%) it is worth calling a general election if there is an internal calamity in the party. Incumbent presidents are defeated in US elections exclusively as a result of massive changes taking place within party systems. Essentially any ruling party that fails to gain 10% of the popular vote in the 5 years after coming to power is on their way out. I've been hoping the ANC would drop to below 60% because that will cause greater conflict within the tri-apartheid alliance.

An election that would bring the EFF could well be free and fair but successive elections are unlikely to be free and fair if the EFF holds more than 70% of the national parliament. But there is a very important question that needs to be asked is it justified to make one election less free and fair in order to prevent the next election from being wholly un-free and fair. The 1994 elections were riddled with irregularities but set course to a democratic society.
