Article: The Hobbit will be split into three movies: Jackson

The film version of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" will be split into three movies, rather than two as originally planned, New Zealand director Peter Jackson said Tuesday.

Jackson, who was responsible for the Oscar-winning adaption of Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, said be began considering the possibility of three films after watching an early cut of the first Hobbit movie.

Thats like saying its a Ghetto version of Pretty Woman, Middle Earth in the year 1984, and Gollum as a clown.

Seeing that I found the hobbits extremely annoying in the LOTR trilogy, I will give this new trilogy a complete skip.

Honestly, how much can you really squeeze out of the LOTR saga? Or maybe he sucked at other movies and wants to go back to his happy place?

Ok, Batman might have been squeezed more....I have lost track with how many times he has been resurrected or risen again. Boring.

I think its a good idea, it will allow Jackson to flesh out the story more.

I'm not so sure about this. LOTR is a massive book, and they left out major parts even after splitting the book into three. Hobbit is a much simpler and shorter tale, and I don't really know if there is enough content to justify three movies.

They'll throw in quaffing, whoring and singing about gold in for free :D

This is Tolkien, there is more than enough content in the Hobbit for 3 movies in my opinion.

Hell there is enough content in LOTR for 6 or 7 movies... so much stuff was missed.

Agreed. They cut out a lot of things in LOTR.

Would've loved to see Tom Bombadil :)

it's becoming like star wars now :p

not a fan, but hope the fans do enjoy it

Ah, that's the rub. However Jackson has given us an answer - he will include stuff not found in the Hobbit; such as content from Tolkien's middle earth history and other stories.

I'm not sure this is a good idea. The Hobbit is a childrens story compared to lotr, its written in a different style. I'm just not sure there is enough there for 3 full movies.
