Article: The real matric pass rate: DA

I dont understand the the fuss abou the pass rate...

I scraped through on my arse many moons ago and today I drive a 160GSI Monza. CotY 91 FFS.

None of your degrees can afford that...

H0$H

Well look what Malema normally drives and he failed woodwork! Criminality also pays the bills I guess.

I am sure if the 30% pass standard was removed, and it was minimum of 50% to pass, the matric pass rate would be devastating.

It really makes me wonder, how is it possible for someone not to make the 30%...I can sort of understand if they in the Transkei (no teachers, non-poor infrastructure, etc) but in town and around....:(

Kid's adapt to the expectations. If you dumb down the system everything dumb's down with it, those that should then get all A's (100%) theoretically still only achieve the 50-60% just above the class "average" Only difference is in reality that more time is wasted at school!

Wouldn't be too surprised if principals are encouraging drop-outs, during my Matriculation in 2005 my principal AGGRESSIVELY persued convincing me to drop-out (Because fail your second language and you failed the year, no matter how many other As you got). Despite my miniscule chances (suppose I should mention I was taking Zulu as that second language as well) I did ignore him and passed, but the real kicker? Same jackass was running for a local municipal election barely a year later.

Something tells me if the WC was still the top performing province like in the recent past, no investigation would have been called for. In fact, has the DA ever questioned the results to this extent in the past when they held the top performing province?

Yes because there is no real issue is there? And the DA never investigates real issues do they? And all is well in education and we should never ever question the ANC because they are doing such a brilliant job.

And Maths and Science is so hard because Verwoed made it so. !!!!!!!!!!

The big jump is suspect to say the least - election ploy??

More depressing is pupils with 7 A's unable to get into UCT because of skin colour and admission policies. Cannot believe they full of pupils with lower marks.

Where is this country heading?

Pupils with 7 A's can't get in UCT because of skin colour ? Link please.

I don't think it matters what the pass rate is. Any prospective young person applying for a job will be swiftly evaluated by the HR dept or just the boss of the firm he is applying to. I have interviewed countless young people who have not a clue what they are about, have inflated ideas about their abilities, cannot read or write properly, cannot recite their phone number, cannot even fill in an application form and look at you as would a puppy waiting for his meal

The post above is correct when an institution applies quotas as criteria to its admissions policy. It won't be written in plain English, but hidden away in sentences that read, "successful applicants will have to meet with all aspects of the universities admission policies"
