Anyways maybe i misunderstood and you did not mean that they should be happy for the US to slaughter them for the greater good.
Explain to us why manning is a wuss for releasing all that info knowing what would happen to him.

Being a martyer does not mean you have to die (although I acknowledge that is what it most frequently means).
The reason I say that he is a wuss is because he is now trying to wheedle out of it and come up with a defense showing that he is not guilty etc.
As I said before, if what he was sharing was that important and groundbreaking, then why is he now trying to plead not guilty?
Why not rather say, "yes, I did it, and I'm not sorry I did it, and I would do it again"
And take the punishment that follows in the hopes that it would raise up a groundswell of support that will result in protests and support.
He knows he will not face the death penalty they already told him that.
So now, let him play the noble hero, the victorious victim of the US government.
But instead, he is trying to wheedle out of it as if it say,
"it was not really worth my time or effort to do it and I don't want to be punished for it!"
Instead of being like the great martyrs of history, he is like Assange.
They get scared and run when the going gets hot.

They are fighting the US government.
What you want them to do is say fine we will no longer fight you, put us in our cell. That is giving up.
Manning is fighting the US and so is assange, you may think assange is running away but he is fighting them and round 1 to assange. Well played in my opinion.
The more assange and manning are in the news the more fighting power they have, if they are living out their lives in a cell where is that fighting the system?
Being a martyr is not possible if we use the true meaning of the word or the most used(you get my point). The US cannot kill either of them so they become nothing. They are not martyr's if they accept a prison cell for life.
If you are doing to go down you need to go down making a noise and that is basic idea behind the martyr, a statement but in this case the statement cannot be death and a prison cell for life is not a statement.

Mandela was never going to be in prison for life, the blacks knew at some point the SA government would fall. Besides he was picked up and accused of crimes. he had no option but to sit in jail. there was no legal situation to help him out.
Mandela is most noted for coming out of prison and not slaughtering every white in the country.
