Why is it that the S kings have the same amount of players of colour as other teams. Seems a bit strange.
 
My memory is sketchy, but I seem to remember Luke, when politically forced onto Jake White and the Boks, debuted against Samoa.
Wasn't long and he was helped off the field with pummeled ribs following a few test level tackles from the Island hardmen.

Rude awakening and hardly a debut he would have hoped for.

Sad thing about Luke career is he is a pretty good player, but the baggage he brings with him, mainly as a result of meddling politicians, is unbearable to a sports fan.

That's always been my point. An insult is only turned into an insult when the person allows it to be one. Kaff_r is seen as a major insult as it was always used in a derogatory manner to refer to black people. Well English people regularly use the word Dutchman to refer to Afrikaners in a derogatory manner. The difference? It is water off a duck's back for Afrikaners but to black people they have given it the power to be a major insult.

Some people are just more sensitive to teasing.

But you should respect their wishes and therefore don't use that word. Finish and klaar.
 
Luke and his dad both have a political angle in sport.... politics and sport should never mix.

Go call a Pakistani in England a 'Paki' and see what happens. It is most certainly a slur over there. Likewise with 'Dutchmen' here.

Spent some time with the Kings over the weekend and Luke Watson seemed to be a nice enough guy.
 
Luke can call me what he wants. I'll never forgive the puke comments though. He was never good enough for that jersey.

Re the OP. Most afrikaners I know are proud to be called dutchman. Its a jibe and not very offensive. Its on the same field as when they call us souties or rooinecks. Its not on the same level as calling someone a tappet, clutch plate or a rock.

People will cry about anything.

No, he's saying he was a tw*t and has no excuse. Did you not see the 'deeply ashamed and deeply embarrassed' bit? He is not justifying the remark, he is apologising for it.

Is it so difficult for people not to move on? I was at the Stormers/Saracens game, the first after this blew up, and when Watson got the ball on his own 22 in space, the boo's were deafening. But that was it. It was like 'okay, you've been a tw*t now just play the fscking game.'

And it should have been the same for the rest of the country, when instead of running away, he went to Loftus and Bloem and manned up with balls of steel. Unfortunately, the journo's have column inches to fill and they know the Watson saga is good for another few years in this country.
