Article: Woolworths boycott backed by shareholders

Germany, UK, Sweden, Scotland, France, Hungary and others.

Ok, so you've listed random countries, but not mentioned any of the steps they are planning on taking... and are you talking countries as a whole, or just specifics businesses within those countries?

Also, do you have links to back up your claims?

I do know that Sweden recently began to officially recognise Palestine as a state.

Thats fine, and I'm aware of that.

As far as I'm concerned Palestine has the ability to be recognised as a state, but it needs a decent and free and fair election to facilitate that happening.

They discussing the situation, boycott or no boycott, sanction or no sanctions, other means that could sever ties with Israel.

So while the US have a stonch and unwaivered support of Israel, other countries are discussing their stance which in itself is cause for concern to Israel.

Well since obama has been in charge the relations have soured. He has undone a lifetime of good relations to please his Arab friends

So Germany reneged on a single deal, where Israel were expecting Germany to fund a portion of the deal themselves, and you link this to some boycott/no-boycott thing, rather than the fact that the EU is going through a very tough economic period, and Germany needs to tighten its belt and can't really afford to spend money like this.

Thats an excuse youve just generated in your head 5 minutes ago.
Trade relations between European countries and Israel are being questioned, fact.

Truth be told: It's the Muslim people in general who are calling it the killing of innocent people. When Hamas sent rockets at Israel it's fine if a few innocent Jews are killed. But when they retaliate - THEY ARE KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE!!!

I just find it very funny and biased.

You appear to presume that people view conflict in a binary fashion and that criticism of the current corrupt, authoritarian and militant government of Israel is an endorsement of Hamas. Such a presumption is a bigotry and any attempt to cover same prejudice by reference to other bigots (bigotry towards the people of Israel) does neither your argument nor your intellect any justice.

Hamas murders hundreds of Palestinians, the sordid condition that Palestinians find themselves in is a consequence of being treated as a second class ethnicity in the region and the fact that the Palestinian "cause'" was really a power play between various Arabic and Islamist powers of the time in a geopolitical cluster****. The fact is that Palestinians who fled from the Israeli controlled territory in 1948 and 67 were encouraged to do so by both the Israeli and neighbouring powers and these individuals have been rendered refugees in neighbouring nations. Jordan, Syria and Egypt all ****ed over the Palestinian people as did the Turks before them.

All of this has been canvassed without distraction or deflection on this forum. The criticism is not that Israel is solely responsible for the oppression of Palestinian people but that it does so, and persists in doing so under the guise of law. Israel has a choice of whether to deploy apartheid measures (measures that constitute apartheid at international law) and with the current leadership they are making a set of reprehensible choices and perpetuating a culture of violence and fuelling the cycle. It is this choice that is criticized and this choice which is rooted in malicious intent that must be condemned.

Applying the very logic that the hate speech spewers use against the Palestinian people - namely that they are collectively liable to reprisal due to "supporting" terrorists - would result in justification to wage terror on Israel for "supporting" (that is through the electoral process allowing into power) Netanyahu. Israeli's can choose Herzog (bit of jest: of course with that name they shouldn't) who supports a two state solution and hasn't been demonstrated as as duplicitous as Netanyahu. They could also bring to power Yachimovich, but you can't have a feminist or socialist in power can you? The point very simply is that the discrimination against Palestinian civilians has been a part of the political dynamic of Israel due to a domestic political turmoil - oppressing people is a good way to unify a clan, and the culture of building a bogey external threat is the oldest trick to keep power.

There have been times when Israeli's who adhere to the Islamic faith who are Israeli citizens have been able to acquire high office and a democratic state of Israel has often been the beacon of light in a volatile region, but when the intelligence services are deployed to spy on MKs in order to track dissidence. When a Supreme Court judge does not enjoy sanctity of chambers by virtue of his religion (a man whose integrity is held in such repute that he was so appointed) there is a problem. When political discourse is such that the party in power is able to have MKs stating that if the Supreme Court disagrees with their exclusion of a candidate from eligibility to office the judges are un-Israeli you have a problem. The efforts made to remove Haneen Zoabi from political relevance are nothing short of scandalous and Israel's democratic character is lost by the attempts to exclude Balad.

Truth be told its more than just the Muslims, other countries are discussing their stance on Israel. That in itself is reason for a failed state.

I think you need to revisit your understanding of a failed state

countries discuss their stance on other states all the time - it is called foreign policy

the free and fair election standard is problematic for state recognition because there wouldn't be many states to recognize at all

but yes Palestine should be recognized as a state and from that starting premise should flow broader questions as to accrediting representatives and leadership and so on - a diplomatic cable in the vain of "we refuse to afford letters of recognition to XYZ because said individual has supported terrorist activities again the State of Israel" ...
