So they will sell 3% less tomatoes. They will just make that up somewhere else. be it the farmer, the worker the retailer. It's so easy to stomp out a 3% decline it doesn't even take extra work.
 
No, this happens if something doesn't sell. If it sells, and good at that, no way they will pull it. EVER.

Sure. But what one person may consider "irrational, hysterical and hypocritical" may not be the same for another. Ditto for groups of people. Many societal factors influence that
