Article: World Cup guards fired

“It is amazing how easy it is to lose a job. I believe that we should have continued to work while negotiations were taking place,” Dlamini said.

“The strike was led by people who had no knowledge. We had no representatives who held talks with the employers. The only thing we did was to protest the whole day.”

In afrikaans we have 3 words for that...

"Kry vir jou!".

:D FINALLY , SOUTH AFRICA HAS WOKEN UP

:D dankie tog jeez ek wens dit het oorals so gebeer maar dit gaan mos te lekker in die land ! ek gaan strike want ek soek n coffee machine . durban is koud

I would love to see the contracts these guys signed with Stallion Security? Or to have overheard the verbal contracts.

I hope the CCMA gives Stallion Security a nice hiding! :D

Probably all started with some guy drunk at the shebeen, trying to impress the "mamma" serving drinks, bragging about this new hot job he got where he's earning R1400, naturally, everyone overheard, next morning there's a que a kilometre long, the job sounded so sweet, no body bothered to ask any questions

Was probably agreed upon verbally. Ever heard of a verbal contract?

Not when it comes to the BCOE Act. They said they signed a contract... the remuneration should have been specified in that contract.

Stallion Security - kiss your asses goodbye as the labour lawyers will be lining up to represent these employees!!

/I'm not defending the dismissed employees, as I believe they erred with the wildcat strikes.

LoL, yes neh - don't come here with your black tendencies - bloody agent! :D

I doubt Stallion is in the wrong here, unless their HR and law departments are total numbnuts.

It was an illegal strike and they deserved to be fired and surely there must be a clause in the employees' contract about going AWOL during the SWC...

Well, we don't know what was in the contracts and also, these guards might fall under "Volunteers being paid" and not employees. They might even go as far as to say they were not official employees on the pay roll. BCOE might not even apply to this.
