Article: Zuma: SARS must be independent

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) must continue to act without fear or favour in ensuring full compliance with the law by all South Africans, President Jacob Zuma said on Friday night. "We cannot and will not tolerate anyone - from within government or outside of government...to denigrate the hard-won reputation you have built as credible, objective, apolitical and non-partisan institution of state," Zuma told guests at the annual SARS Amakhwezi Awards ceremony in Johannesburg.

And if he'd been at an anti SARS conference, he would have said the opposite ...

Can only hope that this was also a dig at Malema....but I doubt it.

"We cannot and will not tolerate anyone - from within government or outside of government...."

SARS is as "credible, objective, apolitical and non-partisan" as my dong is after 12 pints...

Well seeing as SARS is doing such a great job maybe there is some truth to what Zuma is saying :D

Who said that they are doing a great job, IMHO they are doing a really poor job !

Also, IMHO some people would really regret it if they did do a great job - but again, IMHO, that is not going to happen !!!

I guess the lesson to be learnt here is the same old one.. in like the only certainty is death and taxes..

Care to elaborate? eFiling couldn't be simpler.

They've fallen apart over the past year or 2..
eFiling was introduced a few years ago.. try dealing directly with them now, with anything that doesnt involve efiling
they're worse than home affairs at the moment

Try and do anything with them directly you will have endless headaches.

We recently registered a new company, we have been struggling with EMP registration for more than 2 months now.

I was talking too our accountant today and its easier to do things illegally in this country and you will probably get away because of ****ty SARS. You try and do something legally and you will have endless issues and headaches from SARS.

Need I say more ?

However, I was referring more to all the people who openly get away with tax evasion. Note that bribes are taxable income.

Well the majority of people I've spoken to in regards to submitting IRP5s etc and getting money back has all been positive. I needed to go into the Durban branch and found their automated number system worked better than the queue at the bank, this was a few years ago.
