Ask a new Father anything

If you say things are back to "normal"... you ready for season 4? :D:o

hallo Jaco :)

Time is a lot more limited for sure. I dont get each evening to sit and play games like I used to, but my wife is quite flexible in that regard. Having said that, I dont WANT to spend every moment playing games. Believe it or not :)

4 months?
Dude - you haven't even started yet. Around now you'll say 'I don't see what the big fuss is about?'
:p

Four months - such a peaceful stage… self propulsion, now that's when the fun starts.

Me neither really, it's more a social thing for me recently

happened in a mall one day (many years ago) - fortunately there was PeP handy for complete change of clothes for infant and shirt for Dad

:D

Whoa, I haven't had it that bad yet. Perhaps the winter clothes have helped contain things

You are probably 0.1% of the population that have "zero issues" and I wouldnt broadcast that too loudly if I was you. People like to be able to relate with people who go through same challenges.

Either that, if you did nothing at all and your wife did everything. I have a friend like that and yeah it was "dead easy" for him.

No I think you are misundertanding.

I'm not saying there aren't any challenges. I'm just saying it's nothing that nobody can't handle and it's not the apocalypse like many parents make it sound.

So many people put such a negative spin on it that you wonder why they, or anyone else for that matter ever had children.

It's a mindset, it's as hard as you make it or allow it to be.

We've been in hospital on three different occasions from what I remember this past year, with a little one that is "normal" sick probably a week of every month. My wife has also been to Jo'burg for a few days where it was just me and baby...again challenging but not wrist slitting. Scary? Sure. Impossible? Not at all.

Which is precisely why I asked what these WTF moments were for you, because I largely find it's a matter of perspective/perception.

Have I had sleepless nights? Sure more often than not. Even when it's not my turn I'm awake at every moment regardless. Is it a world ending catastrophe that has me running to other people to tell them how terrible it is? Not at all. I can deal.

Same applies to people who say they don't have time for anything.

You have less time, no question about that and if you didn't see that coming you need to ask yourself some serious questions.

But it's a matter of priorities and you simply make time for the things you like to do...and the things that you don't like to do any more...just don't do them.

There is also nothing wrong with wanting to spend your time with your kid now. But then simply admit that instead of making excuses for yourself like not having time.

I think the biggest surprise change for all of us is probably the fact that we are much more keen to spend time with our children than we ever anticipated.

My most challenging one was a restaurant with a changing station that I can only describe as a "pedestal" there was no room for a roll over even.

I think I telepathically floated the wipes with my mind because in retrospect I don't remember what I did exactly to keep a baby afloat in one hand, the pedestal poop free and the clothing clear while also wiping and discarding of nappie.

With my old man being wheelchair bound I always ask a hundred questions beforehand of new places to find out how disability friendly they really are, I should start doing the same with the family friendly notion because many of them aren't family friendly at all when they claim to be.

We quickly worked out which malls/shops/restaurants were the most baby friendly and avoided the rest :D

Ok, totally understand what you are saying now.

Just remember that everyone IS different hey. The WTF moments I was referring to are just probably "lets solve it with common sense" issues for you :)

I think a lot of parents make it harder than it should be. Well that is what I see when I look around, but yeah its still early days and each to their own.

I have to admit - I used the shower as a bum washer .....

We had one of those basin shower head taps - luke warm water, kid in left hand, shower head in the other ..... no wipe the ass stuff for me.
