Hi,

I have been having alot of trouble with my ADSL line for the past few months. Basically what happens is that my line keeps disconnecting/resyncing/connecting over and over. Sometimes it connects for like an hour but then it disconnects again.

This has been happening for the past few months now and it makes my internet almost unusable (load google, type in search terms, results, click link, then oops page not found). Like now for this post I have to copy the post and I am probably going to have to refresh the page for my thread to get posted.

The first thing i did was to phone telkom which I did twice. They came to my house and did their thing and the adsl line still doesnt work. I had to even replace my modem and buy extra microfilters as per their advice and nothing works.

The one thing I do want to do is phone telkom and tell them I do not want to pay them because they are selling me "always on internet" but nothing seems to be on at all :P ...at the same time I want to ask them for a refund for the past 2 months when I have been having this problem /rant :P

Unfortunately I dont think I have a right to claim from them ... so did anybody also have adsl line speed synchronization errors and how does one go about solving it?

Had a similar problem. Loss of synch can be from too many CRC errors on the line. There are a few things you could try:
  • If you have multiple extensions in your house, unplug everything & move the modem to the extension closest to where the line from the street connects.
  • Old cabling & bad connections (this also applies to the line outside) will also cause problems. Can you hear audible crackling/noise on the line?
  • Also check if your alarm system is connected to the line as this will require a micro filter
  • Next you can request telkom try dropping you to a lower line synch & check is its more stable.
  • If your modem has a decent status page it should show a counter for line / CRC errors.
There are also quite a few other threads on the forum covering line synch problems.

Just keep in mind when phoning telkom - the average tech has no idea what CRC errors are. :)

I checked the CRC errors and it says 0 though

but when I unpluug the phone line of the other phone connection (we have 2 connection points in our house) then the line seems to be stable for a little bit longer.

Is there anything else that I need to check???

Please post your modems SNR & Attenuation stats.
More info regarding SNR & attenuation HERE

What speed is your line & what is your modem actually synching at?
Was there any audible noise on the line?
Did you try dropping your sync profile speed with Telkom?
You can also ask them to re-create your port on the DSLAM.

Look on your router's stats page, there should be things like Line Attenuation, SNR/Noise Margin, Sync Speed etc. post those stats here, it could be that you're are too far from your exchange to sync at the speed profile you are currently on.
