Asus EEE Notebook thats just been released?

R3128 is a bit expensive ... the price for that model is more along the lines of R2999 ... or at least my price ...
I don't think its a dinky device, if it had 100 more Mhz, a 80gb hard drive, and was branded Sony Vaio ... people would pay R18k for it ... like the old T range ...
7" is great for portability, especially for the ladies that carry the big hand bags ... it'll fit ... and if u want u could install windows, and buy a 1.8" external drive ... Windows XP Home +- R750 ... 40GB External Drive +- R600 ... R2999 + R750 + R600 = R4349 ... now where else are u gonna get a 7" laptop for that price ... ???

Oh ... and 1GB DDR2 Memory +- R500 ... so total +-R5k ... and ur sorted with nearly the equivalent of a VAIO

the Eee Pc

im interested in getting one.perhaps you can let me know when they gonna be available and price.

I'm also interested in getting one (almost entirely for mobile e-mails), but I will probably end up importing one instead of buying it locally as the price currently sits at around 299 USD excluding delivery (shouldn't be too much considering the weight of the system).

Let us know how it goes, miles1 ;)

no one seems to have any stock at present.local distributors for asus - rectron and corex say that stock will only be available jan 2008.online resellers ngr say towards end november, e-3 say 10/12/2007.have2have are currently quoting 3700 for the 4G model but are also waiting for stock to arrive.

Ravenservers - 299 USD is prob for the 2G model.ebay seem to have the 4G model listed at 399 USD.can you recommend an online seller thats willing to ship to SA.im always reluctant to import hardware.

It seems as if scotty777 is gonna be our best bet.......lol

Hi,

Believe it or not, but it was the 4G version ^^ I have been eyeing it from NewEgg for the past week or so. It appears they have bumped up the price for some reason :( (unless it was a promotion). Darn!

I would say stick with have2have for your imports, as they have an option to only pay when you actually get the product. There is another import company, but unfortunately I do not remember their name - perhaps a different forumite can perhaps enlighten us on the name.

Surely the answer here is to use a relatively big flashdisk with the smaller hdd? In the US you can get ridiculously cheap flashdrives, Circuitcity are selling 4gig sandisk cruzers for $22 (http://www.black-friday.net/ad/circuitcity-black-friday.html) so for an extra R130 you have quite a decent setup

*EDIT* I realise prices are higher here, but this just shows whats possible

Ya, Um... you can simply spend R1000 and get a 120 gig 2.5" external hard drive. and thats enough space for any one...

i was also thinking of adding a dvdrw and some extra ram just for completeness then youve got a nice 7inch machine for +/-5k.it doesnt get any better than that..........

Ya i guess ive always assumed an external harddrive was pretty big, so 2,5" thats like 6,5 cm? thats damn small. I was thinking that the whole point of the laptop is its size (or lack thereof) so flashdrive was the answer but i suppose 2,5" aint to bad at all..

found two online resellers willing to ship to sa
they either have stock or will receive in the next day or two
price = 187 gbp +shipping
clove and expansys.com

ive imported stuff b4 and customs was never an issue.the courier brings it to your door and the post office never gets involved.i dont think its an issue for the odd package but obviously large scale imports are a different kettle of fish. it seems like its gonna be a while b4 a local reseller is gonna be able to have stock available so im tempted to give this a shot.
