ASUS Eee Pad transformer

I spoke to a guy named Craig,

Think he is a regional manager of some sort.

Got his number from Purpleflytrading last week when I asked when will the tablets arrive.

I also spoke to Asus. They said that the 32GB arrive next week and that the 16GB at the end of the month...WTF???

They also said I can contact Platinum Micro for further questions...

Now I'm baffled...

Did you call this number? + 27 (0) 11 783 5450

Update

It seems as the stock did arrive but the 1st lot mostly will be used to fill pre-orders. If you did not order one already you will most likely have to wait till next shipment at the end of the month. There was a small number of 32 gig models that will be available next week when they are shipped to resellers.

Are they not bringing in a 3G version? Caould you connect your 3G dongle? Wonder if there are Android drivers?

Only person that can awnser the 3G dongle at this moment is RSkeens as he is the only one I know that has one.
3G models will be shipping end of July.

No keyboard bundle :( no 3g :(

Intitiallly I had reservations about not getting the 3G version but to be perfectly honest...Its really simple to just use your smartphone as a hotspot. Ive been doing it at the office with the multitude of iPads and have not had any issues. Best part is that I then only have 1 data contract. Screw buying more data.

The keyboard is expensive but I will definitely pick one up once I have a unit in my possession.

Also as video above indicated you can charge phone while its running a hotspot for you.

Same here I dont want another data contract, or when I am traveling buy 2 pre-paid SIM cards and at home my WiFi sorts me out just fine.

Ok, after watching these 2 videos I am even more excited. It does everything I want it to do (except 3G, but I can live without it).

I hope these become available quickly...

Also, in my office its an Apple fortress. Its basically me and and another guy who enjoy Android. Cant wait to show them a real tablet ;)

Well there is a reason companies all over the world can't hold onto stock :)

I have just spent the last 10 minutes fiddling with the Bluetooth connection option with my N8 and have not had that much luck. I get the usual Android "Paired but not connected" message (search on Google for more information). I am not too bothered because I will not be using 3G for this device. If you are looking for that connectivity specifically then I would say wait for the 3G version.

There is a "USB Tethering" option from the settings menu, however it is greyed out (this is -probably- because I do not have the keyboard, but I will be getting one for it soon). The description states that "it can use be used to share a connection from your Android device to your computer." If you need, I can take a photo of the settings screen or description.

It is grayed out because your tablet has no data connection or 3G capabilities. Tethering is for allowing the sharing of a data connection between the data enabled device (Android phone, Android 3G tablet, Android tablet that uses a WIFI hotspot, etc.) and other PC's.

Elimentals, once you've gotten your Transformer, could you please give some feedback on how it performs as an e-reader? Is Honeycomb currently compatible with Read It Later, Aldiko, Kindle, etc.? Is the pixel density high enough for extended reading? Is the screen bright enough t read in moderate daylight (eg. if you're a train)?

This is probably the main thing I want a tablet for. I'm in a field that forces me to keep abreast of current affairs, and I would love a tablet to which I could save articles and books read whenever I get the chance.

Will keep you posted on details, I will only be reading comics and web pages, as I have a manufacturing defect and cant exactly read books :)

I would imagine that it should be close to the Ipad 2 experience as it use the exact same screen, well with higher resolution but same tech.

Funny, I am also incapable of reading books. I lose interest almost as soon as I start reading, I start thinking about other things or what else I could be doing like watching the movie instead of reading the book, for people like me, books are as deprecated as a ball mouse or iOS :p

Edit: I'll read anything from Jim Davies though.

Actually the 2 pads are using different tech. The transformer has a larger screen with a higher resolution, iPad 2 is TFT transformer is LCD
Both have LED back lighting & IPS technology though.

In other words the Transformer has a better screen unless you prefer a more square screen ratio.

How much is it costing locally? I see you can order the 16GB of eBay shipped for R3500 - and the 32GB shipped for R4500?

Would also like to know as R4K is the landed cost of the Tablet alone, the keyboard is about R1.5K

For that price its either A. a mistake on the suppliers part or B. international order and you still gonna get hit with import duties.

Its probably rampage gaming. I called them and they are unfriendly tools who have no idea what they are talking about. They said we are only receiving 16GB units which is wrong, they said they have keyboards bundled with the unit. I'm pretty sure that's wrong too as I searched Google and no one is bundling.

Also, they don't reply to emails or answer on the live chat function and the dealings with them have been incredibly unprofessional and downright rude.

I told them to cancel my order and instead went to rebel tech. Cool friendly and knowledgeable guys.

Rampage gaming can suck it....unless the deal of 16GB unit with KB is really R4400. Then I will apologise and buy from them lol.
