ASUS P5Q SE cpu question

Hey guys.

Im completely out of the loop when it comes to this sort of thing, so i thought where better to ask for information than from the helpful folks here at mybroadband.

I have the ASUS P5Q SE atm, also have the E8500 cpu.

Im looking to upgrade my cpu so i wanted to ask, whats my best option with this mb?

Any help would be awesome :D

So you are looking at getting a socket 775 Core 2 Quad CPU or Core 2 Extreme CPU, any of them would offer a huge CPU speed improvement.

It would be a huge improvement, these days it's not the clock speed that matters anymore like it was in the old days, these days it's what kind of processor it is, you have a dual core processor currently the Q8300 is a quad core, so even though the clock speed is lower is has double the amount of cores.

So I suggest you look for a 9 series quad core.

Hi There,
I went to ASUS site and from this link you can see all the supported processors. The Q9650 would give yo the quad core capability and a massive throughput improvement.

The site also has tips on installation.
