Asus ROG Ally hands-on tested

The Asus ROG Ally makes a great first impression as a highly-capable portable gaming PC that could help spark further momentum in the handheld market.

MyBroadband recently had the opportunity to try out the much-hyped Steam Deck rival during an event in Johannesburg.

The fact that it runs windows 11 is the reason it will be more popular.

It's a fully loaded desktop/laptop/handheld all in one compact good looking device.

I want one and later on buy an egpu addon for it.

EGPU makes no sense. The EGPU is $2K and is proprietary so you'll only be able to use it with this device. This device does not have upgradable memory so that will also limit you. A 4090 is quite future proof but this device won't be. So if you have an extra R40K to buy an EGPU for this, I'd spend the R55K and pay in a bit more and get a 4090 based gaming laptop where at least you may have 32GB or more of RAM.

This device is great for load shedding. You can either game on the battery - at poor performance or run off a R5K portable power station or power bank and easily get 4-6hours of connected-turbo mode power.
