Asus Rog Ally

Okay so got a beefy 65w charger, logging a return as it moans it's not an original

Might as well just get that official one I think. Less hassle at this point
Definitely starting to look like it, though I've gotten the ugreen dock working nicely on my 65" but 4k doesn't run well at all. I've got a fhd 24" laying around may hook it up to that for 'bigger' screen gaming.

Well disk cloning not working out well. Acronis (Sabrent's copy) just died and didn't clone the disk while Macrium also gave error 8 all over the place. I disabled the AV. Changed the USB-C cable. Reseated the SSD in the external Orico enclosure. And now plugged the drive directly into the Ally with the power at lowest wattage and that seems to be working but my battery will have to last out. The drive works though when plugged into a Mac and I can copy files to it and on Windows Crystal Disk Mark is able to test the read and write speed but Macrium bombs out with error 8 when working via the powered dock. What a joke.

Official sucks though, it only has a USB 2.0 port.
The ugreen does work nicely, but you have to use the official charger. Once I've got my refund I'll get the 100w, or I'll try the 100w dell psu I've gotten

OK, managed to clone the drive, it had me fooled because the enclosure light did not light up during most of the transfer. Then swapped the drives, and so far, so good. Now moving the SD card steam library to the SSD.

Sabrent Q4 SSD, fwiw

Done via a dock or you replaced the nvme

I did it directly on battery power. Orico enclosure via USB-C to the ROG, Took about 30minutes using Macrium 30 day trial. I need to do more testing on this dock. It was rated as a very good dock but these ratings can also be BS. I put the old Micron (not Sabrent) in the enclosure now.

The thing is that apparently if replacing via cloud recovery, Asus is only giving people 1 year access to that. So that sucks, if true. I did it the old school way.

That's BS actually, as if the drive fails you'd need a way to recover no?

Yes cloud recovery where it downloads via BIOS from a local or "China" server. People in the States are asking why it's prompting them to a "China" server.

Well you'd need a way to recover or you can buy a new Windows key and install that way... it's BS for sure.

You won't need a new windows key, I've had my laptop fail and I just installed Windows and it registered fine again under the laptops serial number, so I assume the Ally will be the same.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and really enjoying it! I have a fairly decent gaming PC, but being able to lie in bed during the cold winter nights, whilst playing Diablo 4, beats it hands down! I was skeptical at first, but it's a cool little device (if you can look past some of the issues such as battery life etc...)

Same, I've got a Series X and a decent Mid-range PC yet I play the Ally more, for the reason I can play in bed, in the lounge where I could be like my cat and just stretch on the couch in the warm sun :-). I did actually fire up my PC on Saturday to test some things and did end up playing on it, remembering that 32" screen + ray-tracing does look really good.

Do you run a Sabrent SSD in your PC? Then you can probably use their Acronis True Image software, I think it checks for the sort of SSD installed.

Haha, I don't have a gaming PC. Last time I had one was in the early 2000s. But have a PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch and several PS Vitas (different regions). So for me it's like a return to PC gaming although lower level but the small screen does not require ray tracing and the like.

I do, but it's currently full of games :-)
