Asus Rog Ally

Did it get toasted?
I'm not sure if it's the card or the reader that's gone. But no matter how many times I try restarting or formating the card I can't get it to work again.

I need to play around with it again this week to try troubleshooting

According to a lot of sources it's probably the reader :-( seems cause the vents go near the card reader, it's toasting cards.

I wonder how incredible connection is going to handle RMAs

Who knows, for me I've had mine for almost 2 months now, I don't personally use the SD card as I'm using it to play older games that my Desktop is just overkill for, I'm still loving it though.

Got my Shein order

Damn this 100W charger is heavy and it has an aluminium body. Feels premium. Will test out performance as soon as I get a proper type-c cable. Forgot the Asus one is not detachable :cautious:

On another note. Can't I just install windows 11 pro so I can have remote desktop?

You adding all that ram to your ROG xD

You can get a key from a place to access remote desktop yes.
Just a note, if you do a cloud recovery, it will restore home edition but you can just use the key again.

If you need a cheap key, pm me. I think its like R100, or there abouts

@cavedog there are workarounds to get Remote Desktop installed on the Home edition, but over the weekend I went a different route.

Installed, Mouse without Borders on both my PC and the Ally. Can easily copy/paste and use the mouse/keyboard between PC and Ally via Wifi, works lekker!

Haha I wish. I needed DDR3 ram for my server so the 8GB 1600 ram sticks were R130 each which is dirt cheap. I have a Windows 11 pro oem key that I bought some time ago.

Yeah I have been using anydesk but I think using remote desktop when my ally is docked can work better so I can do what I need to while on my laptop and just grab the Ally and play no need to fiddle around with installs on it.

After having setup Playnite to my liking, It tracks all hours played historically as well as current.
It falls a bit short on XB GP tracking cross platform games but I don't think that's a Playnite issue, it just means Xbox reporting playtimes on the series consoles might not be easily accessible to external sources.

Be that as it may, Im really liking the Ally. its very versatile. I saw youtuber Filterless did 900p tests. Theres a way to add that resolution and test out games yourselves if you interested

I just installed Windows 11 pro from a USB drive. Very easy and now I have everything set up like I want it.

Asus provide all the drivers and apps on their website so you can even run windows 10 or 7 if you wanted.

The ROG Ally is a decent device because they went with Windows so you can do anything on it. They went for a nvme swapable drive. The only issue I have with this device is battery life and RAM. The ram is not swapable and I wonder with all the extra space if 2 x laptop ram slots were not going to fit there to make ram upgradable.

RAM won't be upgradeable, because it had to be soldered as close to the cpu as LPDDR needs that for it to work optimally

I'm travel ready.

I ripped out 1 flap from the bag, was getting in the way of storing stuff. Also printed a kick stand.

I just need a 65w or higher watt USB C cable.
