Asus Rog Ally

I'm travel ready.

I ripped out 1 flap from the bag, was getting in the way of storing stuff. Also printed a kick stand.

I just need a 65w or higher watt USB C cable.

Excellent. Which bag did you order from Amazon?

I had the brightest of idea's dawn on me. Since I have a TB to work with, redo the Ally where C handles OS and apps, let D drive keep all the games and use macrium to make snapshots of C. That's way I can play around with handheld companion or other apps that seem to interfere with Armoury crate, if something goes horribly wrong, well then just restore the macrium image and move on with my life lol. But it is a massive undertaking of where I am currently. I may just bite the bullet today after work, but theoretically that means I don't have to download massive games again if something goes wrong

Iofeiwak Carrying Case for Split Pad Pro Hard Shell Case for Hori Split Pad Pro & Binbok & NexiGo Joy Pad Controllers - Support 20 Game Slots / Button Protection/ Large Capacity https://a.co/d/86TpSTm

Solid and spacious but I would stuff in the original charger.

I just ordered a 100w USB C to USB C cable from TA. The Winx cable is really short.

Okay so I had to bite the bullet and reinstalled from a USB drive

Created the partitions I wanted, deleted recovery partition(s) because I'll use Macrium to restore anyway.
Will be installing all games on Data Drive, that way I can nuke C: if I ever need to and most stuff should be on D anyway. Gave C enough space just in case of large updates etc

Everything went well enough on the clean install.
Managed to get all Asus stuff up and running without too much fuss. So the cloud recovery for a year thing shouldn't be a problem for most tech savy people after that year ends.

I applied the registry tweaks and power option adjustments off the bat.
Let everything update accordingly. Will install most games I want to play before making said backup so things just go a bit smoother for me if I restore (Game launchers will recognize the games are already in their respective locations etc)

Edit : I did run into a slight hiccup in Device Manager
There was an unknown device - ACPI\NVDA0820\NPCF
A quick google search shows this as Nvidia Platform Controllers and Framework located under Software Devices. the easiest way to update this is to download the latest Geforce ready drivers (I got RTX 4080 drivers) used 7zip to extract to a folder and pointed the device to update drivers from that folder. Worked like a charm
Most likely related to the XG mobile platform so wouldnt be a big deal, just interesting to note

Yeah had the same issue when I installed pro from a usb. Other then that if you update to the very latest win11 updates it automatically enables optimized for touch settings so it's exactly the same as it was before except it's pro now.

Installed all my currently most played games. Made a back up of C, 32GB, Uninstalled ACSE, did some debloating and installed G-Helper + Handheld companion. Will trial it out and if it's crap will just restore the image. So far so good, the interface is... interesting. I think ACSE nailed it with the tabs, that's the only real thing I'm missing tbh. Will give it a few days to see if I get better battery life playing the games I play and report back. Trying out Vampire Survivors on 5 watts

Frak sake cannot get Baldurs gate 3 to work on it at all, just keeps freezing or crashing

Which store front? I can get it from Fitgirl to test but not sure where that one came from either
Steam :( uninstalled it for now, will more then likely just play on my pc. The Ally will be my older rpg game station

I see. Will let you know how I fair, I see its a pretty chunky DL
It is indeed, I started it on Wednesday but had to redownload it again on Thursday cause they did some rollback that made steam to redo2

Yup I have :( vulkan freezes, dx 11 gets to the menu
I saw people say a Windows update today or yesterday messed up the graphics driver, maybe that happened to you.

I saw you have to download the driver from Asus and then uninstall the display adapter in device manager, install that driver, restart and you're good to go again.
