Asus Rog Ally

I don't get much time to play these days, but when I do I'm pretty happy with visuals / performance.
I probably wont upgrade anytime soon, but if they could move the tech forward in leaps and bounds its good to know if and when I decide to, its going to be a significant change. In my mind its like me having owned a Playstation 1 then buying a PS4
I mean I get roughly 45 fps in cyberpunk at similar gfx quality to series S so I'm okay

Needs a better cooling solution :) if you could get the gpu and cpu cooler you'll clock higher

It has a vapour chamber with twin fans though? An improved heatsink, better thermal paste?

BT games is selling the ally (z1 extreme version) for 10k.

Could prices be going down because of the Legion Go and MSI claw being sold in the country or what?

Edit: gone now
(Probably zero correlation but I'm just wondering lol)

Both have similar level of performance.

Service from za.store.asus.com (Digital Generation (PTY) LTD) absolutely sucks. Not sure if I will ever get my Ally.

Hi All,

I've been considering getting the ally, but want to know what peoples experience is with it? I've been watching a lot of videos about it and these range from complete adoration to its a windows 11 hell.
So besides the sd card reader issue? Any other issues, even if they seem only like quirks?
The obvious alternative is the steam deck, which was a no gone, due to local pricing, but local pricing have come down gradually and now the steam deck is on sale at btgames
So asus rog ally for 12k or steam deck for 10K, which is the better offering?

What I'm experiencing. That for every 1 of 3 boot ups, the Ally goes dark for 2-5 minutes after Windows login and then seems to work normally. Although yesterday for some reason it seemed to disable the GPU and I was getting 15fps in "Yeah You want those games..." from Steam. I had to reboot. You will get that sometimes. But on the other hand it can play every game out there which is a Windows game.

That gpu issue could be related to the March update.
Mine is when sometimes it goes into the bios and doesn't see the ssd, even with the original ssd.
Other than that, some windows issues, but yeah I've got no gripes as it plays most games great. Though a TouchPad would be great

Had this as well (still using the original 512gb ssd) it but just fixed itself after a second restart.

Besides the issue mentioned above, I've had windows related issues but even then, they weren't annoying.

Pricing aside, the better offering depends on what you really want from a handheld.
If you want the best console like experience and want to save the most money then go with the lcd Steam Deck.
If those factors aren't important to you then get the rog ally.

I'm extremely happy with my rog ally and wouldn't think twice if i had to buy it again.

Yeah I mean I even got my son one for his birthday last year. He's even had his occlus hooked up to it, the other day he was like hey I still have a pc. As most of the games he plays run just as well on the Ally.

Yea struggling with that one, consoles are convenient and require considerably less tinkering. But then with something like the rog ally its nice to know you have some room left for future games. But good to know there aren't any other major issues people have been experiencing.

So accessories wise, what kind of companion devices are you guys using? Docking station/Powerbank/Mouse and keyboard
