Asus ROG MARS Limited Edition .......

I wonder how one ROG will compete against two 5970's?.....

You do not need to ask anyone the question as keep mentioed get 2 5970's or 2 5870, these 2 setups for less money will chew the asus up and spit it out.

For the same money you could put 3 5870's in crossfire.

Basically that car is not worth the money anymore, was not even worth it when it came out considering 295's only cost 6k, so for 14k you could have bought 2 295's for less money.

Not to mention it is not dx 11.

you could buy a 5970 or 2 5870's and a i7 system and it would beat the asus and have dx 11.

That's fair but if you just want to compare speeds?

Dude 99% of all new games support crossfire and if they do not it is not like one 5970 won't run it high. I went crossfire now and it is worth it. I have had no issues at all.

5970 & 5850 in Crossfire-X

I use a 5970 OC Edition & 5850 Std Edition ion Crossfire-X and it is really worth it

Running all games at full detail and highest possible resolution and not a single pause in any game...

The reason why it was so expensive is because it was very limited. 1000 in existence. It was VERY fast, read "WAS", but like any other "limited edition" product, was not worth the money. If you're a Nvidia fan, wait for the "Fermi" line of cards being launched in April. It's said to kick ATi's butt, well, for a while at least until ATI retaliates :)

If you have this kind of money to waste on a GPU that's total overkill, wait for the ASUS 5970 ARES. Now that's going to be something -drools-

The mars wasn't actually all that much faster than reference 295s, so no. Either wait for Fermi in a month or two which will demolish everything else or get a 5970 which by itself is faster than the Mars. Buuuutttttttt - look at this moment in time there is literally NOTHING that you cannot max out with a single 5870 at 1920. I can max out everything on a 260 216sp. A single 5870 will get 60+fps in everything. If you are going to spend the money, there are other components that will give you additional performance benefits that a bigger graphics card won't by itself - faster ram, SSDs - why don't you look into something like that before splunking out r15000 on a gpu just so you can see the difference between 70 and 90fps?

One HD5970 is faster than the Mars and less than half the price. The Asus Rog Mars is just 2xGTX285. A HD5850 beats a GTX285. So 2xHD5850 beats 2xGTX285. Now a HD5970 is 2xHD5870 (with slightly lower clock speeds) which will be even better.

I have a Asus EAH5850 and it runs everything super smooth.. by the time it does start to hiccup on newer games in a year or so there will be another sub R4k card that will pomp it and the MARS.

The problem with graphics cards atm is that the majority of games made are console-oriented. So a 5870 may be 6 times more powerful than an xbox360/ps3, but if games are being tailored for the limitations of console hardware they are not going to stress the gpu. There are a very small handful of games that are pc-specific and do stress hardware like STALKER, but even those are easily maxed out with a gtx285. So I'm not even sure in a year's time we'll see games that will choke current generation hardware. It used to be that you absolutely had to have the most up to date graphics cards because there was always something on the horizon that would demolish what you had running (doom, quake, half life 2, doom3 etc), but I don't think it's the case any more. Even the next Crysis and ID games are being ported to consoles. You think they're going to push your 5970 to its limit? No chance. Valve is content with squeezing Source till it hemorrhages. So where do you see this mythical next generation of graphics coming from? I can't see it anywhere on the horizon.

No it is very much the case, console ports are being optimized for pc's. You can still use AA and AF for console games. So if you run a 260 you cannot apply 8 x aa and 16 af without the card exploding :D.

So then i'll rather wait for "fermi" cards and see what they can do...if not i'll buy a 5970

I just posted this on another forum.

Fermi has been "2 months away" for about 6 months.. When it eventually launches im guessing the quadro cards will get first pick of the very limited numbers so the few which the gamers will get will be scarce as hell(especially in SA) and ridiculously expensive. So it might be 3-4 months before we can actually buy a fermi based card in good old ZA.

Also, the AMD/ATI HD5xxx has been out for a long time already and I doubt they have been sitting doing nothing. A month or 2 after fermi a new AMD/ATI card could appear, what then? wait some more?
