ATI 4870 for mac

Its on Core's offical price list so you should be able to find it somewhere?

Sure you dont want to wait for the Geforce GTX 285 in June though?

couldn't find it on zastore, digicape do have it.
i shudder to think what the local price of the gtx is gonna be :)

You can buy a regular PC 4870 or 4890 and install it in your Mac Pro - it works perfectly & you save a lot of money!

Synaesthesia, have you actually tried this?
It does seem like a hassle, plus the card doesn't initialise until the machine is completely started up, so dual boot is a problem.
Also from what I've read on the subject, this method seems to only support 1 display.
So overall not a good idea to add instability to an otherwise very stable setup.

But yeah, the so-called mac version is going for around 4.5k for the 512mb version, which is a rip-off

I haven't tried it, as I don't have a Mac Pro, I have just hackintoshed a lot.

Well if you flash a PC 4870 to a Mac edition 4870 - the Mac won't be able to tell the difference! And updates, dual screen etc. will work!

a lot of the comments there seem to indicate that dual displays do not work with this method.... at least not for everyone

would be nice but it sounds too risky/boring
i'd have to make the dual boot version 'cos i use windows for some things, so that further complicates the rom flashing procedure

maybe the 4870 mac edition will get a bit cheaper when the gtx285 comes out
