I just saw that AMD is going to drop the ATI name from their graphics cards. Radeon and so forth will remain, but it will all be AMD, not ATI anymore...

Just drop it in the voodoo pot and we can make a nice 3d gumbo.

What is the difference? At the moment ATI is AMD anyway. Just another 3 letter acronym.

It's still going to be the same excellent product.

Good: AMD can focus on one brand name to market
Save costs
Customer sees AMD CPU and AMD Graphics? wow must be supper compatible over Intel+Nvidia.

Bad: Well known brand is lost. Who has heard of AMD Radeon? :wtf:
Hard to differentiate: AMD green plus Nvidia Green .. No more Red vs Green :(

hmmm, this is a PR move for AMD, yes, people will be a little filled with wtf... but it's still a clever move... rather have people support one big company than it's little companies...
Also, people will associate AMD as a good brand, ie: if the graphics cards are this good, their processors must also be good!

I remember reading about AMD taking over ATi a while ago and since then my brain must have just automatically replaced ATi with AMD. I was 100% sure that I bought an AMD Radeon a month ago until I read this yesterday.

Was quite freaked out when I actually looked at the box again and it said ATi... :D

what... sniff... about sniff....... red and green?

well they'd probably make the amd graphics logo red... i think

I'll still be buying Intel and Nvidia regardless ;D but I believe this will only be a good thing for AMD.
