ATi vs Nvidia

Ok I own ATI because the price/performance just can't be beat. but i love some of the latest Nvidia software features - better drivers, Cuda, Physx. I'm really split. but i'll probably keep buying ATI just for the price if they keep making them as good quality as the 48xx series.

I currently have a 8800GT which i got for R650. If I have to buy a new card now it will def be an ATI.

My previous cards was 2x3850's and a single 3870. Never had any probs with ATI. The 8600 I had gave huge probs. No more greenteam for me, mebbe if they can beat ATI in price and performance but not very likely.

I have an xfx 8800 ultra which I payed R7000 last year jan
I have since brought an hd4550 ATI/amd card

in world of warcraft in the main city (dalaran or stormwind) I get 13fps with the 8800 ultra
and with the ati I get a nice 30fps

in age of conan running dx10 the 8800 ultra sits at 25 to 35 fps
the ati sits at 16 the difference is that I brought the cheepest ati I could get my hands on but what Im realy saying is that if the R600 ati gives me 16 fps and R7000 one give me 25 to 30 can you imagin what the top ati can do.

another point I had more problems with hdcp when I have the nvidia running but the ati never once gave me hdcp problem when playing bluray movies.

its also what you want from the card and what games you play
I can play UT3 on full graphics and the 8800ultra doesnt even sweat the same goes for Half life 2 maby give us an idea of what games you play.

what I do recomend is if your chipset is an ati then go with the ati card
if you have an nforce chipset then go with the geforce.

I hope this helps a bit if you want more technical info on the cards that you have in mind link them to the forum and we can all assist with info :)

I mostly play crysis

Test drive unlimited

Farcry

Medal of honor

COD5

And most of the need for speeds(Underground 1 2, undercover, most wanted ,Carbon)

ok I pulled my hair out with crysis on my 8800 ultra I brought that card for Crysis hopeing to be able to play on full graphics but I was sadly wrong my current setup is an
AMD 9550 quad core running 4 gigs of ram on vista ultimate x64 and I have and xfx 750i main board.
so its not a cheap system and that game still runs like ****.
as for cod5 the engine is awsome so either brands will peform awsome in that game .
all thoes games will play well on both makes except crysis or maby Im just doomed

I will go for ATi not because of the price but because I love AMD.
so go buy yourself and ATI HD card and you will smile

Lol well it should teach you not to pay insane prices for a graphics card again hey :D I don't know how you get such poor framerates though. Benchmarks show the ultra outperforming a 4850 on some occasions. It's still a pretty flipping fast card.

Having had both, I prefer ATI, simpy because of the drivers. New driver versions all install on XP, Vista, and Windows 7 without hassles, and just work. By contrast, I had all sorts of quirks with Nvidia, with certain games requiring old versions of the drivers, and others requiring newer versions.

I prefer the graphics card with the highest performance at a certain price point. Brand loyalty means nothing to me when it comes to performance.

Performance isn't everything, surely? What about things like driver stability and compatibility? Or reliability?

All factors to take into account, yes, but ultimately I'll likely spend my money where the performance is. Then again, I haven't had any problems with driver stability, compatibility or reliability (from both camps I should add) so my priorities will be adjusted once the need arises.

not gona read the whole thread but....

AMD/ATI FTW!!!!

at the moment there arent any games that fully utilise intels high grade stuff (295,i7) and for the price you pay for a 295 you may as well just but 2x4890s and crossfire

I agree! have myself a HD450X2 and what a dream!

Ok you guys think its worth getting a HD4890 1GB in Hong Kong for R1500 ?? I think its a freeken amazing deal. Just worried about warranties etc.

On par which nvidia card competes with the 4890.. cause for the same price you can get a Galaxy GTX260+ AC PCI-E 896MB DDR3 ..

so its GTX260 vs 4890. Brands are irrelevant at this point because they all the same price really... leaning towards sapphire though.
or for R200-R300 more i could get XFX GX-275X-ADFC GTX275 896MB DDR3

Poffle - let me know where you can get it and I might go in with you as well (if you don't mind that is). That is an amazing offer.

4890 is better than 275, slightly less powerful than 285.

Edit sorry I just saw that you were visiting there. Nev mind dun wanna hassle you.

Cool, only thing im worried about is the warranty, whether or not the card will operate no problems and also customs :(
