HI Everyone Just a heads up of new sms spam going around

ALL SPAM COMES FROM VODACOM23

Here is the latest Spam:

1). 3 MORE WEEKS UNTIL YOU CAN GET FREE AIRTIME FROM VODACOM! Remember; keep on using your number (your cell number) for calls and sms's to stop this service reply "STOP" OR "OPT OUT"
TO THIS MSG

2). TO CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT BALANCE DIAL *100# FROM YOUR MOBILE PHONE. To stop this service reply "STOP" OR "OPT OUT" TO THIS MSG.

3). Please reply with your Language preference
Reply to this MSG 1 - English 2 - Afrikaans 3 - Zulu
To stop this service reply "STOP" OR "OPT OUT" TO THIS MSG.

what are you on about?

Have you opted out of Vodacoms internal marketing sms's (which your example seems to be)? If not, then please do so...
 
This is spam VodacomData confirmed it and said I must make a post. I got a similar sms on my MTN sim when I opt out I had R25 missing from my account and then I recharged the account and another R30 went missing I contacted MTN THEY SAID SORRY IT WAS FOR THE SERVICE I SUBSCRIBED TO so I trashed that sim.

Even if it was vodacom marketing I did not sign up for it so it still becomes spam. Vodacom sms only say vodacom or a number and not vodacom23

most of the opt out sms my phone wont let me reply but Vodacomdata has sorted mine out

I complained about the same cr@p in September 2008... It restarted in June this year. The absolute worst is that the cr@p comes through at 4 in the morning, and Vodacom doesn't have the luxury of blaming the "service provider"...
 
also got the same sms from VODACOM23, I have a company cell, so I dont bother with all the crap that gets advertised. What annoys me is the calls from Cell C, Virgin and MTN, wanting me to port... not my phone, hello corporate contracts... bugger off.
 
I have recieved it as well, about gift boxes and free minutes

Cell C tends to do that. I've got a Vodacom contract as well as a Cell C contract, and this woman phones me and tries to persuade me to take out ANOTHER Cell C contract just because the price is so good. :rolleyes: :mad:
 
Got to love the marketing phone calls an smses.

I sometimes wonder if these ever work, because everyone I've spoken too simply say no and puts down the phone or something like that.

Best is to play some tricks on them. :) I've had someone on the phone on loudspeaker for 6 minutes while I continued working and they just kept talking and every time the guy stopped I say "ya" or "aha". He spoke for 6 minutes and I wasn't even listening.

Another good one I heard was to tell them that the phone owner was murdered and you're a crime scene investigator. Be sure to ask for a name and surname beforehand and then give the guy a scare by acting as if you will need him to come in to be questioned :D

At least this way you get some entertainment from the calls. Comic relief is much healthier than frustration ;)

Ja, why would I want to purchase another phone and contract if I have a company phone on a Talk 500 ?? I dont pay a cent for the damn thing, and I dont monitor my own calls (I am da boss)!!

PS: VD (he he ...love that V3G gave us that one) I PM'd ya.

Hi

No scam , you talk longer you get extra minutes , i get the sms`s as well and the CELL C calls .

I'm also curious as to whether they opted out of the free minutes or just the spam. I get them as well. They're really not a nuisance in the least little bit...
