So I recently accepted a position in CPT and will in all likelihood be moving down by 1 December with my family.

I have been a Jozie boy all this time and all I know about CPT is you get fish in Houtbay and shop in Canal walk....

I am looking for you input on the different areas to stay:

North ? South ? Why ?
Also list your broadband options if you live in on of these areas as this is quite important to me haha.
Suburbs to avoid completely ?

I will be working in the city, will need a 2 bed place, not sure what to spend perhaps upper limit of around 10k less is always better!

If you working in the city your options is a bit limited ,the traffic is a nightmare to town everyday!

You need look at places in tableview/milnerton. This way you can take the myciti bus to town.

Most of tableview/milnerton areas has VDSL.

Good advice. Just be aware that in Tableview/Milnerton the wind WILL drive you crazy. Northern suburbs have really nice areas with good value, BUT the traffic into and out of Cape Town is an absolute nightmare.

So, between a rock and a hard place.

And your kids' birth certificates.........

You need a passport for Houtbay area, but rest of Cape Town, work visas are fine.

Yeah, and if OP is lucky, the unabridged birth certificate won't be needed for his kids by the time he crosses the border.

There are also train routes that go to the north and the south. What are your schooling requirements? This, in my opinion, is the most important. Traveling the school routes is just as bad if not worse than to town. Where do you stay in Jozie?

If you decide to stay in Bellville & come across a girl called Carla, you tell that fking bitch I hate her & I broke up with her. Unlike the story she's telling that she left me.

I hate that fking bitch.

South Easter....beautiful, windless day in Brackenfell, Stellenbosh etc. Drive to Table View, wind is howling. Days on end. Weeks on end. Months on end....the whole summer.

I have heard this... one more benefit for Southern then...

Little one is still small only 6 months so Schools are not an issue (yet), stay in Paulshof in Jozie..

You won't escape the wind in Cape Town... Rather base your decision on the other factors mentioned.

I hear you... currently public transport / broadband options and prices are making the North seem good to me.

I work in the city and lived in the northern suburbs for 8 years. Believe me when I say it drains you.
You will probably want to miss traffic, so you will get up at 5 to leave just before 6. Then you will work till 5 and sit in traffic till 6.Your days will easily become 12+ hour days. Traffic to and from town is a mess if you live anywhere close or in Kraaifontein and Brackenfell.

Me and my wife moved to the city a month or so ago and now do not know what to do with my time. I do not have children so getting a Loft apartment was an option in the city center.

I will only ever move back to the Northern suburbs when I decide to buy a house and have kids.
