Hi Guys

I am having an issue with very slow ping times on my line. Both my local and international ping is between 800 and 3000ms on a line with nothing else running.

I've got a 4mb line with a capped account that gives me no issues when dialing up from other locations. According to the WebAfrica page, the line is in very good condition:

My router (Dlink dsl2750u) page disagrees:

Telkom has tested both the line (they found no problem) and the router (a new router gave the same results), left to check the problem exchange, and never came back. For a while after that the speeds were better again which resulted in the fault being closed, but now it's incredibly slow so I'm hoping to find out the cause of the problem. I started getting issues when lightning struck and burned out the telephone wire going to my house. Telkom fixed it, but the line has been slow ever since.

Any ideas what could cause the difference in attenuation and SNR rates? Also, how should I go about getting it fixed?

I'd appreciate any advice!

Try without the POTS filter then try a different router. If they both return the same results, then open the grey box and strip back the wires a little bit and reconnect -- there might be a broken wire (they are very brittle). See if that helps.

Hi Ponder

I haven't tested on the SAIX guest account yet, but the second tracert hop is quite high:

I'll ask my brother-in-law (who lives next door) to do a test on his line and see if the results differ. Afaik, he's not having issues though.

Giggity, I'm not using a phone on this line so I don't have a POTS filter in. When Telkom came to check out the line, they did test it with a different router and got the exact same result. I'll try a different wire.

My brother in law is having the same issues, so it's probably an exchange issue.

Thanks guys!
