Audi A3 2.0T FSI

VW quoted me R43000 to replace the turbo in my 1.9TDI

Recently?
Did you pay that? If it was supposed to be part of the turbo recall they had a extended warranty on it.
The 19TDi turbos is between 5 - 6000, then just find shop to fit it, you could also DIY, its a bit of work but not rocket science.
Sometimes its just the spool that needs to be replaced and not the whole turbo.

I had the A3 2.0TFSI but traded it in at 85k kms. Loved it, was a sport back so plenty of space as well. Never had any issues with it and the motor plan was just used for services. Was a 2009 model.

But when an Audi does not have motor plan I would be nervous... They reel you in and keep you buying. It's part of the uber master plan :)

Few months ago. Not part of recalled models. Opted for a recon turbo for about a total of (including intercooler and other things that went with the turbo) R20000, payed 50% by me and 50% by my financing warranty.

Edit: Oh and turbo was completely fubar

Edit: Also, never using a stealership again. Ever. Seriously.

Ouch.
Why did your cooler go? Did they replace with the original? How much is the original?
Always get a comparative quote and research before paying them.
Its common that the TDi turbos have issues but when theres a lot of the same issue there also a lot of solutions already available.

No idea of where the intercooler came from. Also cannot put in words what was wrong with it. Basically what happened is I was driving home late one night, suddenly a warning light came on, the entire neighbourhood filled with smoke and all the oil pissed out the exhaust. Cat converter was also filled with oil, opted to burn it clean instead of replacing. For any future mechanical mishaps and services I have a trusty workshop that doesn't screw you over. Learned my lesson.

Thanks, why did you trade in & did u stick to Audi?

You don't need a maintenance plan to cover major mechanical components, you need a warranty. And warranties are much cheaper to extend...

Change of heart to what?

Probably some ****ty Opel knowing Rouxenator. :p

Loved my old A3, though be aware that the turbo can bite you in the arse, same thing with stronic if it goes wrong.

A3 2 TFSI is fairly rapid, and a real step up from a Golf. Do it.

Opel? You have got to be joking, no, you need something far superior... and it comes from Stuttgart.

The only thing in the same segment is the A-class, and the new A-class would be out of his budget. The old one is definitely not competitive with that particular A3 or 1-series.

Ah, then you don't necessarily need a turbo. However, it is the way the world is moving due to emissions standards.

I've had the seal on my turbo rupture, it results in initial power loss and increased lag. Fortunately not a difficult or expensive fix. The flap also wasn't sealing at one point, again not an expensive fix. This was on a 2006 model. The turbo itself hasn't been an issue, at least not in the initial 5 years I had the A3.

My current turbo, 2011, hasn't given me a day's problem.

The diesel turbos are under far more pressure than the petrol ones, those models are the main source of turbo failure and replacement.

Thanks, will definitely take out a warranty then.Anything obvious to the eye which could give me any clue if somethings wrong with it perhaps?
