On Saturday 18 March, driving home on the N1, I notice smoke behind my S5. Pulled off and there it oil streaming from underneath the car. Because of the belly-pans, I cannot identify the source, but the OBD tells me it is not engine oil.
So close to home, so we decide to limp at 30km/h, with a Hansel and Gretel stream of oil, to the garage. At home I take the belly-pans off and identify the source as a leak from the external gearbox oil filter cap. On the way home, no warnings etc, so I guess the gearbox is not toast.

As the vehicle is out of warranty, but all services done by Audi, I make arrangements to fix it by an independent Audi technician. Order and pay for the parts and oil and arrange for transport to indie.

As the vehicle need a gearbox oil change every 60 000km, and the odo is on 142 000km, I contacted Audi to hear if the filter cap needed to be replaced with each oil service. There is a guarantee on services and parts.

As I misplaced my invoice of the 120 000km service, I tried to contact Audi Centre Airport for a copy. They closed down, but a lady by the name of Mitzi is the one I am supposed to track down, as she will have access to the record. Get a hold of her at Audi Centre Fourways. She confirms the cap was not replaced @ 120 000km. The service schedule also confirms it is not a serviceable part.

So, on Wednesday I prepare to move the car, with the parts bought, to the indie. That is when I get a call from Brandon, the service advisor at Audi Centre Fourways. He requested some pictures and a description of the failure. Not long after sending it, I get another call from him. They, Audi Centre Fourways, have decided, as a gesture of goodwill, they would fix the car free of charge. All had to do was get the vehicle there.

Here Outsurance, who the car is insured with, came to the party too. The came and collected the vehicle at my home and dropped it off at Audi Centre Fourways. All it took was one phone call. I have to thank Nathi personally.

Thursday I drop the car off, and Friday I get the call to come and collect. Car repaired and washed. What great service. I want to thank Audi Centre Fourways, and specifically Mitzi, Brandon, Kathy and Rudi. You made me an Audi fan for life. I did not ask for this, but you guys went the extra mile. Thank you.
 
Nice to hear it my mother was the Service advisor there until very recently, she'd be happy to hear that I think.
