Watch out Taycan: 2021 Audi e-tron GT quattro and RS e-tron GT are ready to rumble

Coming to SA soon

Audi South Africa plans to launch the e-tron GT and its SUV siblings in South Africa in 2021. Production of the GT at Audi Böllinger Höfe at the Neckarsulm production site has already begun. The car will be built alongside the Audi R8. For more information, or to order your e-tron GT quattro or RS e-tron GT, we’d suggest getting in touch with your nearest Audi dealer to find out when to expect delivery if you order now, and considering the logistics delays caused by Covid-19 lockdowns around the world.

Audi E-tron GT 2021 UK review

Should I buy one?

Maybe. Even in this more modest of its forms it’s engaging, and has a little more lightness to its steering, if not any more outright agility, than the RS – its kerb weight of 2276kg is lighter than the faster version. And it suits having slightly less aggressive dynamics.

But I liked both this model and the RS. As much as a Taycan? Pretty much, you know. Marginally less engaging to drive but I’d want to look at it a lot more and it feels special.

Those other numbers I promised? It can charge at up to 270kW on a DC charger, 11kW as standard (22kW optional) on AC. Neither of which is as quick as plugging it into a pump for three minutes, but you knew that.

Some other numbers: £79,900, although that’s only in white with no options. So expect to add more numbers too, quite quickly.

Audi RS E-tron GT 2021 UK review

Should I buy one?

You could well. It's very good. But you should know, and might have noted if you've also seen the review of the regular E-tron GT, that the differences between this model and a regular E-tron are not as great as they are between, say, an RS6 and a regular A6 petrol model. The two electric variants feel far more similar in the way they behave. Time will tell whether that's a problem for 'quick' models. But still, I liked this a car a lot. As much as a Taycan? Pretty much. It’s less engaging to drive but I’d want to look at it more, and it does feel special.

Those other numbers I promised? The E-tron GT can charge at up to 270kW on a DC charger, 11kW as standard (22kW optional) on AC. Neither of which is as quick as plugging it into a pump for three minutes, but you’ll know that if you’re thinking of buying one.

Some other numbers, and quite big ones: £110,950 in base form. There will be other numbers too, adding rapidly, as soon as you go near the options list.
