Audi Freeway Plan - Extend

So..... What does BMW charge? Kind of hard to know where to stand on your comment without numbers.

E90 325i, upgrading 1yr and 20 000kms was R14 000 in 2007

E92 335i, upgrading 1yr and 20 000kms was R35 000 in 2010

E93 335i, upgrading 1yr is R14 500 but upgrading 1yr and 20 000kms is R45 000 in 2014

Motorite Option on E93 335i

R 69 689 upgrading 2yrs and 40 000kms

R 104 533 upgrading 3yrs and 60 000kms

I have Audi A3 1.4TFSI and Audi quoted me R24 000 for 1yr 20 000kms. They also gave me option for R9000 McCarthy breakdown warranty. Personally, I rather pay for servicing the Audi and upgrade BMW motorplan for the 335i.

my goodness but thats alot of cash for a mplan!
ill take my chances and if it breaks and too expensive to fix ill just buy a cheap car of 100k instead!!!

Audi quoted me something outrageous and I just figured I'll take my chances rather... It's been 10k since the plan ended and no problems. Then again I've always thought that I have a Wednesday car.

Thing is, R25k also includes an annual service which can be R3-R7k depending on what is done/replaced. A decent aftermarket warranty is around R8000, so really, you are paying a premium of R10k for the maintenance portion and the fact that they will replace anything that breaks and it will cost you nothing. Yes it is expensive, but consider that replacing your car with a new one means a new cycle of depreciation and car payments, plus when you do trade in or replace, the fact that it still may have a few months motorplan can add value to the car. Also, if one thing fairly major breaks, you will have justified the R25k. These cars are very expensive to fix. Especially the automatics with their crazy CVT/DSG gearboxes.

Bargain. BMW has always been very reasonable with their "time" extensions with their motorplan. Mileage is pricey.

Bargain indeed. I paid R14 500 and claimed over R30 000 motorplan repairs. Some niggles I could live with if it were my money but hell, motorplan covers most things.

Small occasional noise from the brakes ended up being a replacement of all brake discs and pads. If it was my money, I would have probably cleaned them at a lesser cost.

While I'll agree that the 14k and the 35k are decent quotes considering the car... I wouldn't put down 40+ on maintenance unless it's something that was regularly giving issues but that I couldn't get rid of for whatever reason.

70 and 105 they can shove it

Agreed

sorry guys - missed this.

R30,000 for 1 yr / 20,000km (I assume double at 2 years)
R42,000 for 2 yrs - time only, not KM

The time just doesn't benefit me - I have 75,000km with the plan expiring Feb 2015 at which case I'll have around 87,000m on the car. I can extend to Feb 2016 at (I guess) R21,000, but it still keeps the 100,000km limit which I'll hit in Dec 2015 and the last 2 months wasted

Does not sound to outrageous for Audi, keeping in mind this is a premium brand. Seeing as the car is part of the S-line I think it is very reasonable. Only rich people can afford cars like that.

If bought new yes. You can get good prices second hand though and some might want to extend the plan.

I know of one 2010 S4 (not s-line, actual S4) going for 240 now so that's not exactly rich only territory anymore.

That's mine now ;)

That is the exception rather than the rule. The average price is around R330,000 - but I still find 8-10% per year for an incase is a little high.

Yep that is an exception. So you were the one who bought it? Nice one, how's it go?

Yea I know the guy too.

Only got it today at 17.30 - but a little ride earlier this evening... Flies!

Just because you can afford the price you need to pay in order to become the owner does not mean you can afford ownership... It is a common pitfall that common people fall into, they can afford cars they cannot maintain. I see a Corsa Essentia in your future buddy :D

I can afford to own it no matter what goes wrong or what the repair is - but it doesn't mean I'm happy paying for it!

Ok, so Dolby, what did you then decide on the Freeway Plan side? I don't think you can own an S4 without it unless you have R100k in a slush fund for that inevitable gearbox trouble. Is it possible to extend more than once, so maybe go for 1 year, then another year/20 000km when you are near 99000km? By then you will have a much clearer picture of the reliability of the vehicle, plus you will have possibly a different financial situation and can re-assess.
