Audi Q7 (2nd Generation)

I see a debadged Q7 is used in Carpool Karaoke. (I still don't get the appeal of the show)

Audi Q7 e-tron 2017 UK review

Should I buy one?

The hybrid Q7 still feels flat-footed on challenging roads and its brief is undeniably narrow. Those who drive high mileages will be better off with the diesel-only model, but if you have the requisite lifestyle for an SUV that comes with a charging cable, the Q7 is well worth a look.

There is, of course, Volvo’s XC90 T8 to consider. Using a 314bhp twin-charged 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with an 81bhp electric motor, it offers similar performance to the Audi but isn’t as refined and requires a more conscientious hand (and foot) at the controls to unlock its fuel-efficiency potential. You might also investigate BMW’s xDrive40e M Sport, although it matches neither the ambiance nor the practicality of its rivals.

ABT AND VOSSEN TEAM UP TO CREATE ANGRY AUDI Q7…

Volkswagen Group specialist tuner ABT has teamed up with Vossen Wheels to create this custom Audi Q7. The two firms have given the German SUV a complete visual makeover, including inside.

The Q7 has been given a far more aggressive persona thanks to new body panels fitted by ABT. The new front and rear bumpers, side-skirts and flared wheel arches are complemented by a boot spoiler and carbon-fibre trimmings.

The visuals are topped off by Vossen’s 22-inch five-spoke forged alloy wheels coated in Stealth Grey and wrapped in a set of Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres. Adding to the overall aggressive stance is the ABT Level Control system, which drops the Q7’s ride height by 20 mm.

Inside, the seats boast Alcantara inlays with ABT logos while the seat panels and gearshift knob are fitted with carbon-fibre inserts.

The ABT-Vossen Q7 is limited to just 10 units, and on the dashboard you’ll find a numbered authentication badge.

This edition doesn’t come with any performance upgrades, but ABT does offer ECU tuning for the 3,0-litre V6 TDI engine that pushes the power output up from 183 kW to 221 kW.

Just you I think. To me it looks like a jacked up B9 A4 Avant.

B9 has a pronounced tear drop shape though?

Either way why introduce a variant that looks almost identical to an existing model?

3 Reasons Why Audi Q7 is #CarsAwards Finalist

What makes the Audi Q7 3.0 TDI quattro a worthy contender in the Premium SUV category of the 2017/18 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards – powered by WesBank? We investigate…

Audi took its time to get the second-generation Q7 just right. Based on our experience thus far, it’s certainly upped the ante in terms of important factors such as refinement and ride comfort. There are few cars, if any, in this category that deliver premium, luxury motoring with such efficiency and ease. Will the Q7 go all the way to secure a victory in this category?

3 Reasons Why Audi Q7 is #CarsAwards Finalist

1. Refined and efficient performance

Based on the Volkswagen Group’s new MLB-Evo platform, the Q7 is more than 300 kg lighter than its predecessor. You can feel it almost immediately. The lower weight, power delivery characteristics, Quattro all-wheel drive and slick 8-speed automatic transmission combine to deliver a very refined driving experience. The Q7’s 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine delivers a strong 183 kW and 600 Nm of torque, so even when fully loaded it can deliver excellent overtaking power when needed.

With less weight to lug around and efficiency improvements, the Q7’s engine is also impressively economical, with a claimed figure of 6.3L/100km being very reasonable indeed.

2. Top-notch luxury features

The Q7’s interior design is to be praised and in many ways its luxury stems from its refinement, not its features. Nevertheless, you do get most of the features you need as standard, including cruise control, navigation, auto wipers/lights, leather upholstery and even gearshift paddles.

You do have to pay extra for the “nice-to-haves”, however. Notable optional features include 4-zone climate control, Heads-Up-Display (HUD) system, a Bose sound system or, if you must, a Bang & Olufsen system. You can also treat yourself to optional memory function and heating for the seats.

3. Practical and spacious

The new Q7’s cabin is not just pretty to look at, but also very comfortable to sit in. Granted, you pay extra for options that include electrically adjustable sports front seats, Alcantara leather and a huge panoramic sunroof, but even so, we were mighty impressed with the interior. For one, it is notably better packaged than before. It offers more space throughout the cabin than its bigger forebear. Legroom in the second row is particularly generous, and though third-row seating is a offered as an option, Audi claims it’s bigger back there too. The load bay is claimed to hold 890 litres, which is commodious indeed.

Rear seat passengers have access to two 12V power points, ventilation outlets and the backrests of the seats offer a reclining function, too.

Audi Q7

The Audi Q7 is getting an all-round update - both visually and technically. The large SUV features the new design of the Q family and offers superb dynamics and excellent comfort, in addition to its superior spaciousness. Mild hybrid technology, the digital operating concept and the optional HD Matrix LED headlights including laser light are just some of its highlights. The new Audi Q7 will be launched in Europe in mid-September 2019.

Robust look: the exterior design

The Audi Q7 demonstrates the hallmark SUV elements in the current design language. It bears the large octagon-shaped Singleframe, with six upright slats providing the structure. As such, the SUV looks even more powerful. The two-part side air inlets have a much more expressive line, just like the sill area that underscores the large SUV's ground clearance and, in turn, its offroad capabilities. The headlights, optionally in HD Matrix LED technology with Audi laser light, emphasize with their contour and light signature the width of the full-size model. On the restyled rear, a striking chrome strip creates the visual connection between the flat rear lights with their technical-looking graphics and carries forward the horizontal body line. The designers achieved the clear view with taut, flat surfaces, which span the entire width particularly in the license plate region. The Audi Q7 is particularly striking with the optional S line exterior: A blade in the front bumper, sportily accentuated underbody protection at the rear along with full paint finish and 19-inch wheels come standard.

Audi Q7 refreshed! Facelift brings updated styling, engines, cabin

Audi has whipped the covers off its facelifted Q7, handed the large SUV updated exterior styling, mild-hybrid technology and the latest dual-touchscreen arrangement in the cabin.

Clearly drawing some styling inspiration from its new Q8 sibling, the updated SUV employs a singleframe grille with six upright slats. The redesigned headlamps, meanwhile, are optionally offered in HD Matrix LED form with Audi laser lights. Round back, a new chrome strip links the flat taillamps.

The Ingolstadt-based firm will furthermore offer an optional S line exterior package that adds a blade in the front bumper, underbody protection at the rear, 19-inch alloys and a “slightly firmer” adaptive air suspension sport set-up (which lowers the ride height by 15 mm).

Interestingly, the facelift has seen the Q7 (still offered in five- or seven-seater guise) grow in length by 11 mm to 5 063 mm, which Audi says allows the SUV to outdo its “direct competitors” in terms of interior length as well as headroom and elbow room in the front and rear.

Perhaps the most obvious update, though, comes inside, where the German company has added its latest stacked touchscreen arrangement to the facia. As in the Q8 (and indeed the A7 Sportback and A8 sedan) these two screens provide haptic and acoustic feedback.

The MMI navigation plus system, meanwhile, features LTE Advanced, a Wi-Fi hotspot, voice control and the Audi connect portfolio. The cloud-based Amazon voice service Alexa, which is integrated into the MMI operating system, is likewise new.

Audi Q7 SUV mid-life update brings new engines and styling

Three engine choices all feature electrified technology with more variants to follow

Audi has given the Q7 a major makeover with new styling and upgraded kit to bring it in line with the rest of its SUV range – with every engine featuring electrified technology.

The five or seven-seat SUV will go on sale in September with a choice of two 3.0-litre diesel engines, producing 228bhp and 282bhp respectively, and a 335bhp 3.0-litre petrol engine. All three units are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a 48V mild-hybrid electrical system, which allows coasting for up to 40 seconds with the engine switched off.

Those will be followed soon after by a plug-in hybrid petrol version – technical details of which are yet to be disclosed – and the hot SQ7, which features the same 429bhp 664lb ft 4.0-litre twin-turbo mild-hybrid TDI engine used in the new SQ8.

The revamped Q7 features an updated design to bring it in line with Audi’s other SUV range, including a new-look grille and new standard LED headlights. The rear features a new chrome strip that runs between the rear lights. While it sits on the same platform as before, the new Q7 is 11mm longer at 5063mm, although its wheelbase of 2994mm remains unchanged.

Looks better, not so depressingly square anymore.

Audi Q7 Facelift Shown

Q7 now looks more familiar to Audi’s other SUVs and crossovers now.

Audi has revealed an updated version of its second-generation Q7 large luxury SUV. The Q7 has grown by 11 mm and the upgrades include improved styling details, additional infotainment functionality and some impressive mechanical changes.

The most striking aspect of this new Q7 is its octagonal grille, first seen on the new Q3, and characterised by six defined vertical slats. Framing the new grille design are high definition matrix LEDs, embedded with Audi’s laser lights.

Around the back, there is a chromed styling strip which connects the slimmer LED taillights. This metal insert is supposed to lessen the appearance of tailgate bulkiness.

Inside the Q7 gains Audi’s latest stacked touchscreen configuration, while its doors feature self-closing functionality. An orchestral quality Bang & Olufsen sound system is available and there optional massaging seats, which also feature heating and cooling functions.

Audi is offering the option of five or seven-seat layouts for the new Q7, with luggage capacity varying between 856- and 2 050-litres for the five-seater version.

Audi Q7 2019 review

Should I buy one?

If you’re after a luxury SUV that offers a slightly elevated level of engaging road handling manners as well as impeccable rolling refinement, the likes of a Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5 or Range Rover Sport will likely be more attractive options than the Audi. At the same time, though, given its size it almost seems slightly moot to criticise the Q7 too greatly for not being the most thrilling car on the road. Because as a comfortable, impeccably refined luxury SUV, there’s really rather a lot to like here.

The quality of the cabin is certainly on a par with those of its rivals - in terms of both material appeal and practicality - and that 50 TDI engine is both impressively demure and meaningfully powerful. It now looks even more purposeful than before, too. Admittedly, it would benefit from a slightly more responsive, intuitive gearbox, but this is a small fly in what is an otherwise very appealing ointment.
