I've got a budget of less than R100,000 and I'm considering 2 options.
1). 1999 or later Lexus IS200 manual, or
2). 2002 or late Audi A4 (1.8T/1.9TDi/ 2.0)
I wont consider a BM cos I know how and when to use indicators and so dont think that I would "fit in wit the crowd".

What so you guys suggest?

I would take Lexus over Audi any day but in this scenario the Audi is 3yrs younger so probably the better option. What's the milage like?

Got a lot of cash for parts or are you a mech :D

hehehe, yup, same here, no BM for me :)

If u really have to use the indicators then maybe the audi....but for that much are u not better served in a corolla

IS200 is a brilliant car, but the new IS makes it look extremely out of class, havent compared the Audi A4 to that but I know guys that have 02 A4's service fee's might be a shlep with it.

why not look at a more recent small car. i mean those 10 year audi's would be very expensive to maintain..

Any luxury motor car of any age will cost you money to maintain.
When people say X will be expensive and Y will not they are talking crap.

Your 100k limit should include R20k set aside for unforeseen problems, budget another 10-15k per year over and above that and you will never find yourself struggling to raise cash for repairs/parts.
Weigh that against the monthly cost regardless of whether or not something goes wrong of a newer luxury car with a motorplan and clearly: it is a far cheaper option.

Find a trustworthy mechanic (mechanic - not 'parts replacement technician') and just choose the one you like based on features/looks and most importantly: ride.

Bad choice of cars imo.
Might as well buy a 98 M3
