I wonder if anyone could help here,

I Recently installed an Extra Sound Card.
Purchased from Matrix Warehouse.
It's a CMI8738/C3DX PCI Card.

My mic was not working on my internal sound, that's why i decided to go PCI.

Now, when playing games...COD4 specifically, i hear the left sounds on the right earphone speaker, and the right sounds on the left headphone speaker.

I have tested the balance in Windows, and it's also reversed there...

This is really strange, and as you can imagine...rather annoying...

I have tried different ports on the card, as it has 5 plugs for bass, front speakers, back speakers, mic, and Line in.
No matter which one i use it's reversed.
I have updated drivers, and tried to find settings but nothing regarding reversing sounds...

Any help/suggestions would help greatly!

Turn your headphones / speakers around ? :D

Failing that, mutilate your headphone / speaker cables and switch them around ?

You could also use software to switch left to right and vice versa (if Windows didn't already decide to do that, just for fun, which caused the problem in the first place).

I have the same problem with my headset, I was forced to do a 180 degree's on it.
But now the cable is on the wrong side of me and messes with my mouse moving hand.
Quite annoying.

There is no way I'm gonna strip the cable and re-wire, those wires are soooooooo thin and coated in a tiny plastic coating that you have to melt off first. It never works properly after.

I did not find a software solution for the problem though.

But ... I do remember seeing a "reverse speakers" option somewhere once upon a time, it may have been part of a Creative (tm) product though.

Is the issue specific to gaming or one specific game perhaps? When you play music, is the stereo swapped as well? In the mixer, can you adjust the balance?

There is something called stage left and right which is a setting on some audio amps - it reverses the polarity of the signal - not sure if this option is anywhere on your soundcard maybe?

Surely it's not an issue to swop the speakers around? Speakers are not left and right dependant at all. They merely carry the signal and process it, irrelevant of the stereo polarity. So just place your left speaker where your right one is now, and vica versa surely?

I remember having a motherboard where the sound was always reversed, eventually all I could think of is they messed up when they made it. If you're good with a soldering iron you might be able to sort it out. Though if there's no option to swap it in the drivers or other software swapping the speakers around would probably be easiest.

Did you try a search to see if anyone else with that card has solved it?

Hi,

Thanks for the response but it seems in Windows and in all games it is reversed.
It's quite annoying in COD4 to hear ppl run past your left when actually they are on the right.
It's not an issue when playing music as i have already swapped the speakers but gaming is different. My headphones also only fit one way...
Especially now that AGASA has started i play quite a bit :)

I will try your suggestions and get back to you.

Here's the best I could come up with:

#1
kX Sound Drivers for Creative Audigy and Soundblaster series. This is the open source, more power driver for Audigy and Soundblaster cards, and yes it can reverse the channels.

MatrixMixer - is a DirectShow filter to upmix any stereo source to multiple speakers.

Not originally intended as a replacement sound driver but maybe you can play around with the load of options it offers.
